I can't believe Keith or Roy, for that matter, let you get away with the "Such a Good Kid" comment without calling you on it. So I guess I'll have to. You a GOOD kid?

Car buyers of the world, unite! You don't have to take this anymore.

Besides, I only said 'perdition', at least that's what I finally settled on. I realize that it is also possible that some of these cars were actually driven by little old ladies but not all of them. To be totally frank, I must also confess that one of my pets did actually eat my oboe reed in jr. high, which is analogous to the dog eating homework example but this must be a very rare occurance.

Dog ate my homework

My kids have actually lost several Homework assignments....I find it's usually directly related to the age of the Dog and the neatness of the child. Of course back when we had the St. Bernard no place was out of his reach...Lost a whole roast Turkey breast off the back of the stove. God I miss that dog.

I've never had my dog eat my homework, but when we had our dalmation, it jumped up, put it's feet on the counter and got away with my lunch money LOL. This was when I was in middle school, mom had already left for work, so I had to explain to the lunch lady what happened and luckily she let me pay the next day.

This Gt is back as a re-listing on e-bay maybe they should have taken the $6400. It will be interesting to watch it's progress this go-around and see if the reserve has been dropped or if they are still swinging for the fence

What exactly needs to be done to it? Well over a grand in work? Thank you for you time and insight. -ND

The nose panel between the headlights has been replaced and was not welded in but screwed down. Makes me wonder if it was hit in the nose and the new panel just replaced that way or if it one of the fiberglass replacement panels Opel GT Source sells, in which case it would need to be finished correctly and I would want to check out the headlight operation to see if they must be ran in the up position all the time.

Too Much $$$

It can be fixed and its a pretty car BUT if your not a body man its going to cost you. 1,000 is not going to do it, because you'll have to repaint the car.
That nose piece is supposed to be welded in. If I were looking item #200241133611 looks like a better deal to me. of course the reserve hasn't been met. and don't forget to figure in shipping cost.
Keep in mind when your looking that ROT is your biggest issue, anything else is pretty much available (parts wise) Floors, rockers, inner fenders, battery box area etc.... Don't be fooled by pretty paint job, look out or filler.

I've found that most car salesman don't really know anything about cars (and I know a few). Sales technique is what they are taught, not anything about the product. I've also noticed that when "classics" come up, some salesmen get an unrealistic idea of worth. There is a used car dealer close to me that had a Jenson-Healey about a year ago and I stopped in to check on it. He had an insurance appraisal done from somebody that doesn't know European cars (only dealt with American Iron) and was selling the car for that price. I even explained to him the difference and he still wouldn't back down. I told him for his asking price I could buy 3 Jenson-Healey's in better shape than his and still have enough left over to ship them to me and walked away. I found out later that he had tried to sell it before on eBay with a posted minumum of 18,000, these can be bought (in better shape than his) for anywhere between 4500-7000.

Something tells me that whoever he got the Jenson-Healey from is/was laughing at him on their way to the bank. Not all dealers will jack up the price thousands, sometimes even they overpay for a car, then to compensate for it they need to mark it up a little bit so they can still make a profit. He may not have been profiting $10k on that car with that price, maybe on a couple thousand like he normally would.

Either way, I do hate salesmen, and I even work at a dealer in the sales dept! No, I'm not a salesman, but I am the internet guy that gets the incoming calls about ads we have

Seen better cars for less money, not going to say all the time, but often enough to know that you can get a similar car needing lot less work for less money. I wouldn't pay more than 4000 to 4500 for it, but your you just consider the cost, the cost of the work it needs and the end product for the total spent and observe the opels for sale for awhile before jumping off into one. JMHO

Most car salesmen fall into two types, one is always hungry and will do anything to make a sale. They make $60,000-$70,000 a year and live like they make twice that, they are always swings for the fence on every deal and don't lose any sleep no matter how bad they hose a customer. The other type is very customer friendly and will bend over backwards to make the customer happy and see that they get a deal both they and the salesman can live with. These salesmen rely on repeat sales and customer referals to make sales and make money. The first type is like a butterfly going from dealership to dealership until they have worn out their welcome in that town or they get out of the car business. The other type builds a customer base and lives within their means and stays in one place for a long time. The dealership depends on the actions of their employees to build a reputation (good or bad) and keep putting their product over the curb.

That is very well put. I have experienced both types. Being in the business, even I hate the guys who try to hose everyone. There are a couple guys I work with that are the latter. They will do anything they can to help a customer, and have a lot of repeats.

Oh, he supposedly owned the J-H since new. As he told me, first he drove it a while back in the 70's, then passed it on to his daghter who drove it till the late 80's when it became a weekend fair weather driver till it was parked in the late 90's. Then a couple years ago he pulled it out of the barn and refurbed it (Sort of, kind half-a$$ done. The new top don't fit right is one thing wrong) and has been trying to sell it for an outragous price since then. So basically it would be all profit except what he paid his son-in-law to do. But he didn't seem to remember much about the car, That year J-H came with a dog-leg 5-speed Getrag hooked to the Lotus engine, he did know it was a 5-speed but didn't know about the dog-leg first gear. Gear shift pattern, R-1, 2-3, 4-5. Reverse up, 1st down then up for 2nd, etc...

Hmm, not sure if I want to believe him or not. I normally wouldn't, but it does sound like a plausible story. Then again, a lot of salesmen are professional BSers
