Glad my Opel GT has a low profile!

Although some of us may grumble as we get older and more out of shape about having to get in and out of a low profile car, I think after watching this news clip of an accident in Shelby County, Texas I'll think again about complaining about how low my GT is!

Enjoy the clip:

That sort of carelessness isn't uncommon at all.
I just have to wonder about the building code in that location. Looks like it doesn't take much to knock down such a flimsy structure.

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

The library in Eau Claire, Wisconsin has a drive through book drop that is actually under part of the building. About 12 years ago I remember seeing the marks on the "ceiling" of the drive through where someone wanted to drop off their books while driving maybe a moving van. You could see where the top of the vehicle just started hitting the ceiling and where the gouges got deeper and deeper because he apparently thought he could get through without backing up if he just tried hard enough. Impressive attitude. I don't know what happened but he and the vehicle were not there when I saw the gouges in the soffit ceiling

Around here on the old backroads we still have a lot of low (less than 14') bridges. It's interesting to notice the horrendous gouges in them.
Apparently the bridge wins every time. By the way, they are always clearly marked as to their height. Most overhangs are, too, if you notice.

In such a situation of getting your truck or moving van stuck under a bridge, instead of pushing and scraping your way back out.... I'd recommend letting some air out of your tires until you get enough clearance to move again!

Why do they post the heights of bridges on them?

Youre driving along at a minimum of 25mph....by the time you read the sign on the bridge you are under it and its too late.

Maybe for an idiot, if you are driving a vehicle with exceptional height and you are approaching a bridge or low structure you should automatically slow down and look and understand height restriction signs. And if one is not cautious enough to do so they should not be driving such a vehicle.
