i will be, its marys first time to the states and she insists on bringing 30 changes of clothes so she will be dressed ok to go shopping

Just came back from the states. We were flying Lufthansa, and we could bring 2 bags up to 20 kg per person. No extra cost. + handluggage of course. Probably the same on most airliners.

The "catch" to watch out for is that the weight is often per bag. If you have one bag that weighs too much but another that is way under the limit, you still get dinged for the overweight bag. This is why you'll sometimes see people fratically moving stuff from one bag to another at the check-in counter in an attempt to even out the weight distribution. I complained once about this as it should be total weight brought on board IMHO but of course that didn't get me anywhere...

Yes, that is correct. max 20 kg per bag.

Why aren't we shipping our bags ahead of our trips? Then just arrive at the airport with a boarding pass and a book. Ship everything back and avoid the hassle of lugging and wrestling with bags. No more carting them through the airport, security, and parking lots.

Hell, pack the GT and ship it by boat. Then you'll have transportation and luggage.

My wife & I are planning on visiting Ireland next year for our 30-year anniversary. Perhaps I'll look into shipping her Miata or my GT.

Baz - hope you have a great trip and I wish I could be there to meet you. You've always struck me as a most interesting individual.

i think if i try hard i can get her to repack 50 times before we set out
my fav is trying to get her to fit all her stuff in the smaller case of our set so i can put it in to the mid size and that into the largest one ( as i said the pack like russian dolls ) so i only have one case to drag round then i can look forward to the fun at immigration control as they go to look in my case

You are having entirely too much fun with this packing. Keep us posted though, I tune in every evening for the update and am enjoying it immensely!
