The flush mounted lenses do look good. I used them many years ago and they were easily available off the shelf at my local auto parts store. Inexpensive and very little modification required.

it might be worth pointing out site policy on threads like this ( or site policy last time i looked )

paraphrased for ease of reading

"people have there own opinions on what is good and what is not
when a member starts to post negative posts on what some one does or has done they may be open to censure "

keep it nice folks or fines will be levied next week on those i meet who post nasty remarks (all fines taken in beer , this could become expensive for some folks )

These might look cool. Almost stock, but flush.
I can see that on a Manta.

There are lots of variations of the original Ferrari lights which are now being used by the imports. The variations can only be measured by imagination and they all look very good, specially those with chrome rings and so on.

The Chevy Cobalt has round taillights. The outers are made with a side edge to complement the curvature of the rear but the inner ones might work.

Ya, I googled that too. The inner have the clear back up lights in them.

I like the existing rear lights. But I took a look through photos of other cars and found most modern cars have lights molded around the corners so they also provide the side marker lights. Anyway, they've become too model specific.

So I looked at classic sports cars and modern supercars. Gotta say, I'm liking the GT's lights more and more.

The top three Ferrari views on the 1st photo show flush mounted round lights, while the lower two show cylindrical lights projecting out of round recessed body detail (cool). Is it just me, or does the Dino GT's rearend (upper middle photo) look like our GTs?

The second page shows photos of non-Ferrari models. Of those, the Lotus Exige has the best lights.

And some more photos. I included the top three because it appears the curve of the light lens may be the same as the back of a GT.

the Maserati 3200GT tail lights look really cool. I would love to see that on a GT. Wonder how easy those would be to come by in the US

Years ago, lumma did some extreme things with the GT's rears and fronts. ( Oh well with the complete GT)

The red one has opel ascona rear lights

Wow. It's hard to find the Opel GT hiding inside the red one!
Kind of like the yellow one in the classifieds here that looks like a Z.

The main thing about the GT shape is the compound curves. Curves disappeared from car design for a couple of decades and that was a huge mistake. In general, square or rectangular lights would not work well with the curved shapes on a GT. When I see the front air dams that are angular with rectangular lights in them or with rectangular headlights I think that the shapes don't help emphasize the form of the car but take away from it. They also remind me of some Corvettes. I also see no reason why anyone should try to make a GT look like a Corvette. They are really different cars and different designs. The one Corvette style element that does make visual sense to me on a GT would be vents behind the front wheels. I think that would go well with the existing design.

Many of the tuning kits and spoilers that I've seen for the GT don't help or add to or emphasize the already great design but detract from it and try to make the car look like something else. There is no reason to do that.

The round, flush tail lights in the example borrowed from "Lofa" look pretty good to me and along with those wheels make it look as if the car could have been designed that way today. From the vantage point in the photo it looks like a completely modern car with those tail lights. That's one test of a great idea or design; it stands the test of time and doesn't look awkward later.
