Hello again form the Gulf Coast
Well it's been a really really wonderful 24 hours. The towing company promised they would locate the GT by this afternoon or they would furnish me a loaner car until they found it. At noon today my car club buddy took me over to the towing company and they gave us the address as to where it was. It turns out the address is the local Auto Zone store. When we got there- the GT was sitting out in the parking lot with about 30 members of the car club working on it. They had completely stripped the interior and flushed it out with fresh water- removed the dash panel and electrical and flushed everything- drained the antifreeze, gas, brake fluid and oil. Rebuilt the Weber and I don't know what else. The seats had been completely re-upholstered and brand new carpet had been installed. When we arrived - the engine was started and it ran like a dream' But thats not the end. One of the car club members gave me the keys to his rental house and said all I had to do was pay the utilities. And then the towing company owner showed up and gave me the keys to a loaner car he owned, for my wife to drive to work. There are really alot of wonderful people out in the world. I have been reading all the email of support on this list and all I can say is "thank you"
Now all I have to do is find some new gauges because the club member who flushed out the instrument cluster was pretty sure there was still salt water in them and they won't last too long. He said the clock was all ready not working ( it never did ).
We got to the house and even the frig was stocked with food and the pantry was loaded. My wife has done nothing but cry all afternoon and promised never to say a bad word about my car club friends ever again. I am still in shock and disbelief. I am a VERY RICH man with all the people who pulled together to make this a wonderful day.
Sorry if this a little rambeling but again- THANK YOU EVERYONE
More later- I am going onto ebay and start looking for some gauges and then I am going to sleep in a bed that isn't in a hotel.

Sometimes when you're down on your luck, you get a nice surprise.
You must have good Karma.

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

The Texas Opel Club is great but this was through my local club, The Space City Cruisers- great bunch of guys once you sober them up
To those of you who have offered gauges- I will be setting up my mail delivery tomorrow. I don't know if I should be getting mail to the loaner house because I might only be there for 3-6 months while we re-build ( depending on Allstate and the Texas State flood insurance and my builder ) or if I should just get a PO box for the duration. I will get back to you tomorrow- Thanks again - until tomorrow

From White North

Tom,

I assume that electrical components are affected the most. I have good speedometer, starter, alternator, tail lights, front and rear turn signals, horns. They are yours if you need them. Please inform and will ship.

Restoring my faith...

I was reading your original entry, I'm so glad to hear your family is safe.
Because the house cars and other possessions can all be replaced.
As I read on past the well wishes, I got to your entry about the GT being missing. Then, I have to admit, I was angry and a little ashamed to be a memeber of the towing industry. Who would take a mans GT? Hadn't you sufffered enough loss?
I'm happy to hear that you have such wonderful friends. And then the offers of parts from the site members, helps restore my faith. It seems to me that the news always concentrates on the bad. It's nice to hear about the good.

I hope the insurance company comes through quickly.
Good luck
