...mmmm Buick yes, Opel not exactly...
From time to time members have posted queries and thoughts regarding other makes and models somewhat off topic. Pontiac GTO's, Saturn Sky, etc., come to mind. Okay, here's what's worked it's way into my brain. I don't buy new, or even nearly new very often, instead choosing to find wheels that have potential enjoyment and staying power for many years.
Here's one that has risen to the top over the more flashy Lexus (Lexi??), Cadillacs, Mercedes and so on... Rated as a 'Best Value' by Consumer Reports, the 2008/09 Buick Lacrosse Super. Equipped with the 5.3L V8, capable of 156 mph top speed it's the fastest Buick ever made. All the while, able to deliver occupants in leather-seated luxury and solid build quality. Returning somewhere on the order of 24-28 mpg, I'm thinking it would be tough to beat this car in all-around performance and comfort. Understated? Yes, definitely! Has anyone out there driven one, or know anybody with the base model Lacrosse to offer comment??? I'm doing some careful research here for a purchase that will take place in the next year or so. The Lacrosse will likely be phased out after 2009, which I think might make finding a deal on one possibly easier, if one could be located. Opinions? Thanks!! 5.3L V8 ??'s
More specific to the previous post, I guess I also would like comments/thoughts/problems in regards to the 5.3L V8 small-block with Active Fuel Management as offered in the Super.
Not certain what other makes/models GM offers this engine in, but certainly some members must have a so-equipped vehicle from the General. Has this engine treated you well?? Certainly appears as though vital functions are reasonably accessible, at least from internet pics. ...bummer...I'm not on the 'distinguished road', either. The day can only go downhill from here LOL. |

Big Brother, hmmmm...
I knew nothing of OBD2, let alone OBD3 until your reply. Thank you! What I learned came from this site:
CTCarsAndTrucks.com Another site mentioned that 2 has been installed/somewhat operational since 1996, so my '85 Mustang obviously is not equipped. Not that I would have the desire, or available highway to let a car like that 'breathe', but it does give one reason to pause. Or, like another wag stated, "find the transponder, and wrap it in tinfoil" |
