Let me know what you think!
I have found a 1973 Opel and was wanting to get peoples thoughts on if it would be a good purchase from people out there with much more experience than I. It will start but does not contunue to run. The car has been stored for 15 years in a garage. Ih has been repainted but 20 years ago. This included some body work. You will notice the rear has been damaged and there is some rust. But the interior loog very good. I can get this for about $1000. Let me know your comments!

Oh yeah!
I would definitely pick that up in a second for that price. The steering wheel and dash are in awesome shape, along with the rest of the interior. The glass looks in tact and the chrome looks good! Engine work is fairly straightforward, so thats not too much of an issue... I wish my $1,000 opel was in that shape when i bought it!

I'd buy it if I lived there
, hier in Holland you'd pay about 5 to 6000 euro for a GT in that condition and maybe even more

I say go for it. Most if not all parts are readily available. It is a 35 year old car, it's going to have a few flaws, but even the rear panel is available if you have to replace it. I got one in slightly worse condition but have never regretted it. If you do buy well best of luck and enjoy, as I am sure you will.

In my opinion, The rear end damage isnt anywhere near bad enough to make it not worth the 1000 bucks and if the previous body work held up for 15 years, I think you will be alright... I havent seen the car in person, but if that was for sale on ebay, i would bid a grand without blinking an eye.

The most important thing is to get underneath it and make sure rust has not damaged the structural parts of the unibody.
Assuming you're not going to drive the car in the winter and will keep it garaged, I wouldn't worry too much about any previous body work if it's held up well for 20 years. The car looks pretty decent as is and would allow you to get the mechanical issues squared away and just have some fun driving it around, waiting until later to get into the bodywork. It's the structural rust that would make the car unsafe to drive. Even then it may be a good idea to offer a reduced price for the car and use it for parts - that interior does look very nice! Don |

That's a sweet looking GT, it must have been stored carefully. It sure seems like a lucky find for the price. Sure, it would be a good idea to poke around underneath at the frame, but I imagine you wouldn't find any real problems. That rear dent looks superficial and could probably be easily pulled out with a slide hammer. I would go for it! My car was in storage for 20 years and like yours it wouldn't stay running, but then a carburetor rebuild kit fixed that problem.

The interior looks to be in very good shape. To me, the damage in the rear looks pretty minor. Any idea why it will start, but not continue to run? That would be my biggest concern. And yes, definitely check for rust everywhere. Interesting, that the antenna was moved to the drivers side. I wouldn't want mine to be there.
