Looking for support...
O.K. Here goes...
My wife went into urgent care with a sore rib (left over from a car accident in Dec. 99)in the middle of August. She had gone to the chiropractor a couple days earlier and that didn't help. At the office they did an x-ray to check for pnumonia. While reading the x-ray, they found a suspicious spot. She was sent to a pulminary specialist and he gave her a list of possible causes ranging from scaring from a previous infection to a current bacterial or fungal infection to the BIG C. After two rounds of antibiotics, more x-rays, a few CT scans, and a number of blood tests, we don't know much more of what it is than we did in August. We do know the object in question is about 3/4" or the size of an olive. We are now to the current point. She has been sent to a thorasic/pulminary surgen. His guess is that the object is scaring, a benign tumor or a carcinod (cancer). He did not rule out lung cancer, it just isn't as likely. So, the next step is a biopsy / surgery. The surgen is one of the few that do a minimum invasive surgery on the lung similar to the heart operation. He will use three probes and go in and take a sample of the object and have it tested right away. Upon the results he will remove just the scaring or tumor, and if it is a carcinoid he will remove the whole lobe (lower) of the lung. Lung Cancer was not even discussed... I write this in hopes that with the power of the Opel Community and positive thoughts, she can have a great outcome. The surgery is on Oct. 31, Holloween starting at 10 am. She has no idea I am asking this as she never would think of it. Please send her all the help you can! Thank You All, Dean |

This is very scary for sure. But you have the support you need here, we're your friends, and we're with you. Your wife is obviously very young, she'll be fine.

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie. However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized. One Mustang was euthanized the next morning. |

Hey Dean,
Sorry to hear of your wife's health complications. I'm guessing not knowing is really hard, but also provides a window of hope for the best resolution. We'll certainly pray for you folks, and wish for a healthy prognosis. Take care, -Jeff W |

I knew you all would be there for us. Thank you so much for being there!!
![]() I am doing good, I try to remain optimistic for hre. She is doing good this week but, next week as Friday nears she will be a nervous wreck. My wife, Lisa (I forgot to mention that...), is one who likes to be in control of life. This, not knowing what will happen durring the surgery, really has her on edge. ![]() Dean |

Hi Dean,
My wife Kathy and I will definitely keep your family in our prayers. My wife has gone thru hell the past 3 years since a major car accident and is only now just beginning to recover her life, and ours. I fully understand what you are going through. We haven't met but feel free to PM me if you need someone local to talk with. Take care, Jeff P. |

You mentioned that you think this is related to a car accident nearly 9 years ago. Has she had recurrent problems with rib pain since the accident?
Best wishes on a speedy recovery! Todd K. |

Hi Dean,
I just hope for all of you, and especially for your wife, that it isn't cancer. May she have a short surgery, and a good outcome. |

Hey Dean
I guess we've all had both positive and negative experiences with doctors and hospitals and I have had both.
I'm certainly no authority, but I know for a fact that all those offices and hospitals are full of very talented people who are highly committed to assisting in the best possible outcome. Every time I begin to chew on something a doctor or other medical person did wrong, I have to kick myself to remind me of the enormous boatload of things they have also done right by me and my entire family. Hope you guys have a great weekend and get the chance to do something fun for yourselves. Best wishes, Gary Sullivan |

Think Positive
I had one of these little scares myself last year.
what they could see was about the size of a grape, unfortunately what it was attached to was the size of a softball. and about as harmful....absolutely nothing to worry about, just some crazy tumor with a name that was 10 feet long.... Try to stay positive, The waiting was the worst, first for the surgery then for the results. Keep the faith. thinking of you |
