I've wondered what it would look like to have polished/chromed front grills but haven't really seen too good of example of them. They look well enough until you strip the rubberized paint off them and then you get to see the rust that has eaten them up. OGTS now has them new, so I'd have to know what they offer first. Are they rubberized like the originals?

I like the blacked-out look. It's especially effective to paint the frame / wiring / horns / battery, etc, black as well, so all that stuff disappears.

hmm. Its never crossed my mind to chrome/polish them. Maybe thats because when i stripped mine to repaint them i realized how much they were falling apart!
I would be interested in seeing it done once or twice, with everything behind blacked out...

Billet Grill

If you were going to lose the bumperettes and turn signals, and perhaps put a newer style front air damn on.... I would look into having a local shop custom build a Chrome Billet grill....or even a billet grill painted black.

After I took my grill mesh out, and realized it was damaged and rusty, I started looking at stainless steel mesh. I thought it would be great, cus it wouldn't rust, and I could polish it, or painted it if I did'nt like the polished look. At McMaster-Carr, it comes in many different sizes and grid styles, but is prohibitively expensive. I may still go that way someday. For now the grill opening is wide open.

It's kind of hard to picture what those original grille pieces would look like chromed. They would have to be perfectly flat I think, to look right. One way you could get an idea (if you have a spare set, or if you haven't sandblasted them yet) is to just spraypaint them with rattle can chrome paint and view them on the car. It might be a close enough simulation to see if you like it better balck or chrome.

Share the pictures when you get them. I took off my bumperettes and am looking at a one piece now to replace the three.

I think the front of the car looks cleaner without the bumperettes. They have no function as they are so low that in any impact with another car even my bumper will go under the other cars bumper. I have seen it on several cars and like the look of the more open grill. I'm keeping my tow hook. Never know when that might come in handy.

For those of you who have removed your front bumperettes, what have you done w/ the framework that they bolt onto and that support the bumper and the front license plate. Personally, I removed my bumperettes, along w/ the framework, license and tow hook (haven't gotten stopped yet for no front license).

So far all I have done is remove the bumperettes. I plan on cutting off the lower portion of the framework that they bolted to, but leaving the top portion that is there to support the bumper. I will leave the tow hook as well.

Like this? Still 3-piece grill though. If I could get rid of that front licence plate it would look even better.

Yup, that's pretty much what mine looks like except I have clear lens driving lights where the blinkers used to be.

Has anyone thought of colour coding the grill? Just an idea for something different.

Welcome to customcargrills.com
I think this would like nice. It is aluminum (no more rust). You can get it in silver or power coated black and they sell the edge trim to wrap it.
The sell many different types of grill mesh material. Their standard size is 6" x 36". One would need to move up to the 12" x 48", unfortunately since the height is 7" of the GT grill.

This is what I have on the front of mine, with no bumperettes or front plate. I just bought it at a hardware store and cut to fit. I painted it black. Looks good.
