24 GTs for sale in Washington

I have been corresponding with a guy who has a Manta for sale near me. My last e-mail from him ended like this:

P.S. I have 24 Opel GT's For Sale if you know anyone who is interested. All California cars with no cancer rust. Some are running cars with a little work, and alot of major fixer-uppers. I know there is a GT club in Canada, but I haven't did any research yet. Thanks!!

These are in northern Washington State - Oroville. But hands off the Manta

Oroville

Oroville is in Northern California. This sounds like "Tony's Opels".

You're likely right. I found the Manta advertised in Oroville, and since there is an Oroville in Washington quite close to me, I assumed it to be that one.

However, since he has now revealed that he has the GTs and his name is Tony, it'll be the California one.

I keep wanting to make the Tacoma show, but never end up going. I'm sure if I actually had a GT I'd be more motivated

Is there any link to the Van Isl club? Or is it an informal group of folks?

Not sure who this is directed at but the fellow in the original post can be contacted via his craigslist ad, or do a search on "Tony's Opels"

Other Mantas? Parts?

CDN,

Are there any other Mantas or parts? As I will (hopefully, this summer) start to get my Manta on the road, I might need parts. What I really could use is a running motor. And a stick shift as this car is an auto. I don't have a lot of cash as the beautiful wife keeps my budget very tight.

Thanks

Dean

One day I'll get my uncle's video changed into a digital format and post it. The guy with dozens of Opels here in GA and another guy who had shelves and shelves of NOS parts.

Speaking of crazy... when I lived in Dayton, OH about 20 years ago, there was a house outside of town in the country that had about 12 GTs lined up right along the road in a perfect, straight-line formation (like you would line up a string of GTs at a car show). This was out in the middle of nowhere at the time and was discovered by a co-worker that would ride his Harley around on weekends and report Opel "finds" to me on Monday. I ventured by there several times over the course of a year and knocked on the door a few times to see if I could get them to sell some parts but no one would ever come to the door. I always felt a little nervous going to the door but really needed some parts... What is it about these cars that makes people want to horde them in large quantities?!?

The guy in GA I think is gone, but, he had a 1 acre field of nothing but Kadetts in every form you could think of. Then he had two chicken coops of GTs, Mantas, and Asconas. But, Oliver and Sharon cruised all over Paulding Co. and could not find anything, you couldn't miss this guy, so, he's gone. He even had a 1936 Opel Admiral.
The other guy was waaayyy over in the western corner of NC, in a tiny place called Whittier. He had bought out a lot of Buick/Opel Dealer's parts and stored them. Like Tony says, TONS and TONS of NOS stuff, 1.1-1.9, fenders, radios, brakes, lenses, you name it. Even had a new short block 1.9 still in the original box. He also had several parts cars. This was for a pacakged deal of about $4k about 25 years ago, the video will make you drool.

I know a guy just off of SHiloh road here in Forsyth County that has a field of cars way back on his property and he let me go back and take a gander at them. He had I think a couple of old kadets back there. Its been a coupule of years but Im 80% sure he would sell them.

There was also a guy in Huntsville Alabama that had around 30-40 GT's, about 8 of them were in a primo rust free state. I bought a nice rust free one with ARA A/C from him several years ago. He also had several garages packed full of parts both rare and NOS, and I mean PACKED full floor to ceiling with literally no room to walk through.

I wish I could find his phone number, I lost it several years ago.

I went to look at them, drove from Ohio all the way out there. I've got pictures that I took when I went there somewhere.

Most of them were not worth saving. And the ones that were he wanted way too much money for. IIRC he had a red one "fully restored" for $13K. I got the feeling he took a bath on them as he had them all moved from the NV or CA desert (can't remember which) all the way to New Jersey.

Dean - Sorry I missed your post - I don't have any info on the cars or parts. I stopped talking to the guy when I found out he was not close to me. PM me if you want his e-mail address.
