I am going to post up some pics of the one that is bad and the drivers side that is good. I noticed around the hole that the driven gear is in there are hairline fractures in the metal. I was thinking that might be the problem but there really is no way to fix that. Still working on a plan to fix it.

Here are some pics of the Rotator Mech. First pic is the Pass. Side One. Second pic is the drivers side notice the gears not meshing up on the Pass Side compared to the drivers side.

Well I took the intiative and started the only course of action I thought might work. I started welding the teeth building them up and then grinding them smooth to get them to mesh up correctly. I don't know how long this will hold up but the welding is strong and shouldn't wear down very fast. Here's a picture of the work. I still have to clean it all up and lube it before I make the final reassembly.

These mechanisms are plentiful. It would have been much easier just to replace it than welding and grinding.

Well I did this and it didn't really cost me anything. Plus I really want to change out to recessed headlights in the future. I just figured it was worth my 30 minutes or so of labor to try and fix vs. buying another used one that may have problems.

Well i got it all back together. It works flawlessly. I guess I got lucky. Now on to other things.

Does anyone know what the bolt pattern on the wheels are? I needed to get some tires but I have a hard time finding decent 13 inch tires. So I am thinking of going with 14 inch wheels and tires.

Moderator's Note: Dear OpelNewb,
After making between ten and twenty posts, you should have figured out how to use the search function. With 56 posts to date, now you need to be told. Along the way, someone should have mentioned that there is a reason that this site is organized into headings, similar to the Factory Service Manual, so that questions and related answers are more easily found using the search function. A general rule is to keep threads on-topic, and to post them to the appropriate Forum. Most importantly, search for an answer BEFORE you start a new thread, and if you can't find the specific answer in a related thread, ADD a post to the thread rather than starting a new thread. General Discussion threads will get lost over time, while threads kept on-topic and posted in the correct Forum will endure and be useful time after time.
The following link, while humorous, provides a terrific insight into the best way to using this site:
Hi newbie, you want to post on a forum? this is what you need to know!
There is an entire Forum related to wheel choices at
3D - Wheels and Tires - Opel Forums
For your further insight, there is a thread related to the headlight mechanisms at
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/2c-gt-h...echanisms.html
and many related threads in that Forum.
Most if not all of your questions in this thread have answers in other threads

Thank you in advance for your assistance

My apologies. I have been using the search feature as well. As a matter of fact I have found many of the answers I have needed in your posts. Thanks.

Again, this is just awesome! Keith my man, you have zero tact. None. Here we have a new fan of Opels who posts intelligent questions (and pictures, both for the problem and how he solved it which are worth a few hundred words at least).

I understand that someone has to manually move to post to the correct forum when it is wrongly categorized butI think a private note to the guy to hint about the correct forum when posting would have sufficed. Thanks for taking the fun out.

And BTW, the "newbie" video about posting in a forum is mildly amusing (at best) for those of us who have been doing this for a while but to an actual new person it's pretty damn condescending.

Sheesh its great to be aggrivated in the morning.

I suspect if we all had a turn at moderating we would do and say similarly. The mods do a great job that is largely behind the scenes helping to make this site as great as it is.

I had seen the video a long time ago. I am a member of quite a few forums. I don't really want to start a war with anyone on here it's a very valuable site with tons of info. That in itself can be rather frustrating. It's sometime tough to find exactly what you are looking for sometimes the info provided isn't there. I also felt that I did a good thing when I offered up my very simple solution to a problem that plagues many of these cars. Let's not get away from the topic though with this. I will admit I should have searched the wheel size before asking I was just on a roll. Thanks to all who provide such a great help.

I enjoy new posts opelnewb, so keep asking questions if you like and good job on the rotators. I agree sometimes the search should be used more often than it is but, if nobody posted with questions or answers there would be less of a reason to look at the site.

Nathan, you may be right that my tact level is less than optimum. At least I was polite I believe that we have agreed to disagree on this matter before. However, should you become a Moderator someday, your suggestion that individual private notes get sent out to every one of those 13,200 members might not seem like the most effective method of communication. With one or two posts, insight has been given to at least a few hundred members who have read this thread.

To be clear, I am not trying to "take the fun out", but imagine this site with no organization, no guidance, and no Moderators. It would look like a few thousand other car boards that are not worth the trouble to even look for answers. And while the "Starterup Steve" link may seem a bit condescending, it is pretty much spot on for providing accurate guidance for posting etiquette.

By the way, I find that my agravation level is much reduced by not logging in until after my second cup of coffee

You are welcome. We set this site up to be much more organized than the run of the mill car board, and after moderating 165,000 posts in 15,200 threads, made by 13,200 members, I just want to keep it neat and tidy. One of the most important aspects of this site is that threads are kept on-topic by the Moderator Team, and are organized by topic to make searching, or just general browsing by Forum heading, much more productive and satisfying. We always encourage asking questions, but SOME questions (such as the example you gave in the wheel mounting spec) are simply too easily found with a search, and to have the same question asked an infinite number of times causes the Forums to get clogged with useless threads. And to be honest, the value of your excellent posts above with photos and such are lost when they are placed in the General Discussions Forum, and especially so when they are mixed in amongst a lot of other questions.

Thanks for your understanding of the intent of my post. Even if my tact was off a bit

Lack of tact certainly gets the point across better and I don't think the moderators have anything to apologize for. i like many others would like to thank the moderators for the excellent way this site is run.

Keep up the good work.

Keith,

The mods on this site do an excellent job for the most part. And I realize it is a thankless job and the pay isnt great. I just think that a note to Opelnewb would have done the job better. I know you can't send a pm to all 13K members but the reality is that not all of them need one and not all at the same time.

And seriously Keith, I know you are not a bad guy but the devil is in the wording.....

Anyway time to move on.
-Nathan

I appreciate everything guys. I have posted to the proper catagories and hope to not only gain some useful info but share lots of helpful tips along the way. Check out my headlight dimmer post. I have decided to go another route and use some more "standard relays to fix the issue it may prove to be very useful for anyone wanting to simplify and repair the issues so many of these cars have with the headlight system.
