I don't know how many of y'all out there have satellite, I don't know if it's on cable, but, the SCIFI channel has the show "Ghost Hunters" on Wednesday nights, and the most recent show has them in Ireland and the vehicles they are using while in the country are Opels!!!

Spotted a blue Opel GT traveling south on I-15 just before Bountiful headed to Salt Lake City with MI plates. A woman was driving. Sure is nice to see these cars still going strong on the Freeway!

Man, Moment, Machine: Wernher von Braun and the V2 Rocket.
I was watching "Man, Moment, Machine: Wernher von Braun and the V2 Rocket" on the History Channel last night and saw an Opel Elite supply truck at a german check-point during the later part of the show. At the moment of this documentary, the Opel Elite logo was clearly visible on the grill of the truck. If this show was technically accurate, the US space program had a huge boost from the parts, documents, and personel that this truck would have been hauling and chances are the US would not have beat the Russians to the moon without them. Brad, I live in Loves Park Il. 40 minutes from Janesville. I have one of my Opel GTs in storage for the winter but the other is in my garage. If you want to hook up send me an e-mail. You're welcome to check out either or both Opels and drive yours down if it's a runner. Be happy to share any advice that might help you out also. Gordy

I saw a blue GT with what looked like the wide tire body kit on it in Salem Oregon. To my knowledge there are three GTs in Salem, and one Kadett. OrangePeel, the unknown blue gt, and myself are the only GTs here in my town.

Opel Kapitan in Avon, CT
This is the oddest Opel sighting I've ever had in the US. Yesterday as I was leaving my father's shop, I got passed by an Opel on Rt. 44 in Avon, CT. I drive this road every day, and have never seen another Opel on it. Well, the car I saw yesterday was a pristine black 1957 Opel Kapitan. I've never seen it before, and I didn't get a chance to turn around as I was sitting at a stoplight. I saw a European front plate, but didn't make out the rear plate. Anyone on this list perhaps?
Bob Added photo of a model - 1959 Kapitan. Looks about the same as the car I saw. Last edited by RallyBob; 04-24-2007 at 02:18 PM. Reason: added photo |

Royal Automobile Museum, Amman, Jordan
According to Denice McCluggage in AutoWeek, the Royal Automobile Museum in Amman, Jordan exhibits the late King Hussein's collection of his personal automobiles. He was an avid auto enthusiast and raced in Europe. His collection of some 70 cars includes a 1981 Opel Manta, in which he won two rally championships.

Through casual conversations with a restoration shop owner, I found out that the driver of the late-50's Opel Kapitan I saw last week is a German engineer working for an aerospace company in CT, and lives locally.
Then, just today while driving to the airport I apparently passed his house and the Kapitan was sitting in his driveway. It looks even better up close! I will have to stop and speak with the guy one of these days when I have the time, and if I can borrow a camera I'll take some pics of the car and post them. Bob |
