LOL. That was mine, Bob! I can't believe you actually caught sight of it. Btw, did you happen to notice the other little car on the trailer?

Craigslist
I'm finding more and more Opel stuff on Craigslist. I've seen 3 or 4 GTs in the last couple of months there within reach of me. .
I saw that one too. I think it's probably only worth about half that though. It obviously need a lot of work. I like the seller's statement ".COVERD IN MOSS...BUT PAINT OK". Yeeah, right, the moss must have been protecting the paint all these years. I can see at least surface rust around the damaged drivers door. Capitola is a nice place with nice beaches (I especially remember a hidden nude beach around there that was real nice for babe watch, so take binoculars if your going). I'll be fishing for salmon off one of those beaches soon. Jerry

I saw a GT parked at a Barnes & Noble up in South Bend, Indiana when I was living up in Niles, Michigan. It's the 1st and only Opel I've seen other than my own.

Up In Smoke
Just remember a scene in "Up In smoke" when they go past a parked yellow or green Manta Rallye. Think it was when they were in Strawberry's sidecar.
Also, years ago, someone here in Louisville used to drive a cream Rekord or Commodore coupe with a black top. Late 60s or very early 70s. Looked like the red one Bronson drove in the mountains in some early 70s movie. Forgot what the movie was. Wonder if it's still around?

Was on the way home from work and saw a Blue GT being dragged behind a SUV on Route 684 in NY, he went East into CT.. Gave the guy a thumbs up as I went by. It looked like it was going to need a lot of work.

I was driving though Poughkeepsie,New York, on Main Street and saw a nice Blue Opel GT with white racing stripes, off on the side street waiting at the light. Looked to be in real nice shape or possable Show Car. Didn't have time to stop, as was in route to my next Service call. Might be someone on this Forum. beeped and waved ,but the guy didn't see me.

Here's a craigslist posting for a 74 Manta Rallye with 50K miles in Berkely, CA. $2000 sounds like a good deal. Jerry

I just ordered and received a catalog from these folks, and on the front cover of the catalog...if you look closely, there's a yellow Opel GT. Appears to be at a major car show, you can clearly see the hood up, and the car is parked between what seems to be an MG and a Chevelle.

I've been seeing a little black bomb of a Manta around town here lately. Pretty trashed and smoking, but zipping around pretty good still.

The 69 GT from Capitola is back on craigslist and with a big price reduction.
1969 OPEL GT It was down to $500 a couple of weeks ago and then $350 this week. However, beware. I called the seller up and one of the first things he said was that he was willing to take $300 cash, so I was very interested in it since it was pretty much all there and it was relatively close. The seller claims that this car was owned by a neighbor and he kind of inherited it after the guy passed away. He doesn't have a title, keys, and the car is not on his property. He has a bill of sale without the buyers name filled in and the registration slip from 92 or 93. I called later and said I would like to have the vin number and plate numbers to check what DMV has in their system, just to protect myself, and that I wouldn't want it to turn up to be a stolen vehicle. I also said, I felt a little uneasy about picking up a car that wasn't in his name, not on his property, and that, what if it then got reported stolen after I picked it up? He told me I was inventing stuff. He says he has done hundreds of sales with only those documents. When I called CA DMV to verify what I needed, they told me it wasn't that easy. I had the DMV person run the plate numbers, and she verified that it was no longer in the computer system. A different person at DMV had told me earlier that she couldn't give me information about it being stolen because of confidentiality issues. However, if I went to DMV to register a stolen car, I would be in big trouble. I talked to 4 different DMV people today. The consesus was that this guy should have applied for a duplicate title or at least we both should go to DMV to start the process. Well, when I called him back and told him DMV had told me that it wasn't that easy, he pretty much blew me off. He said he had other more experienced buyers that were interested in the car (anyone here?). Didn't get to ask him if he was willing to go to DMV with me. To many warning flags for me. Jerry |

All right, what is going on here? This is the same car, now in another city near SF bay, but it's now $3500? No mention about 50K miles, but it now needs TLC. |
