Dragster
I was at an NHRA event in Englishtown, NJ this weekend and to my surprise there was an Opel GT drag car. I think he was even running a 1.9! I would have some pictures but after I got home I realized that when I loaded film in my camera that afternoon it slipped off the spool and never advanced. I should invest in a digital camera

The guys name is Allyn Armstrong running a 72 Opel GT with what the NHRA web site lists as a GM 160 engine... So I guess I was mistaken when I said he was running a 1.9. The announcer was talking about GT's as he came out and I remember hearing 4 cylinder 1.9 but he may have just been talking GT's in general.
He was running in the comp eliminator class and ran a 9.218 ET in the quarter mile... |

This truck is parked in a small street very close to my University Campus. It's been there as long as I remember, and never seen it moving (it doesn't look to be in a driveable condition). One day I caught a guy changing a flat tyre on it, and tried to chat but he wasn't in a mood, so I left the man alone.
Sorry for the poor quality pictures, the only camera I had with me was my mobile phone... But since it is there I might take my digital camera one day with me, to take a few god pics. Looks very nice! Last edited by gr_diver; 06-25-2007 at 04:40 PM. |

My wife and kids pointed out a yellow GT near Albert Lea MN, parked at a house just off I 90 near mile marker 248 as we were headed out west yesterday. I didn't see it. They insisted it was a GT.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty familiar with it, it's yellow or chatreuse though. I was going to buy it, until....check out post #173 on the previous page of this thread. This car has been posted on craigslist for maybe a month now. I'm not a real fan of the seller. He frequently would interrupt me in mid sentence on the phone and was condescending. I would be interested if anyone else here tried for this car. The biggest problem for me was the lack of title issue and he never had a title in his name. I think a buyer would have a tough if not impossible time to get a title from CA DMV. He's willing to give the buyer a bill of sale from the previous owner with the buyers info blank and a previous white registration slip from 1992. Does anyone here know if that would satisfy DMV? My impression was, no. Jerry

Jerry, best bet is to call DMV in Sacramento and ask them what it will take to get it registered. There was a lady there that really helped me out getting Willit? re-registered after some clerk took it out of the system. I had to send them all the paperwork I had, along with a pic of the original plates on the car, so I even got to use the original license plates.

Spotted - Gold 1969 Opel GT entered in the Port Costa California car show Sunday, July 15th.
It belongs to a forum member here, living in Martinez - but I don't know his Member Name (just his real name). The car looked very good with fresh-looking original color paint, a pristine dash that looks as though the sun has never seen it, and all trim, lights, and insignia. What a surprise though. I had originally planned on putting my GT in that show but an appointment with destiny later that afternoon negated that plan. So I thought I'd just drop by the show to look a few cars and sample the food. First car in the gate - this Opel GT! very cool. And very well done, whomever this forum member is. |

Spotted two Parts(?) cars
While driving thru Aurora, IL, spotted two GTs both in bad shape rust wise.
The chrome looked good from what I could see on both cars. One was a possible 68/69/70 with a 1.1L headless engine. No pop out rear windows. The Other had pop out windows (71/72/73) but I could not get to the engine or inside of the car. They are available as parts cars. Two decent gas caps. Decent glass. Interiors are probably shot. I have names and phone numbers if someone is interested. |

One on the road today in WA..
Spotted a yellow GT on the road in Lake Forest Park, WA this afternoon. First one I've actually seen out driving on the open road in probably five years, besides my own, and I drive a fair amount of mileage.
I contemplated flipping my own GT around at the Mexican restaurant at the corner and having a better look at it, but the traffic would never have let me catch up. It belong to anyone here? |

Looks like an Isuzu Opel. If it had the transmission, and a functioning engine it might be worth the $250 so you'd have transportation to go get parts for your German Opel.
But since OGTS delivers directly to our doorsteps - Isuzu's Japanese Opel has become obsolete. |

Woodward Dream Cruise
Today I was driving my Manta down Woodward in the cruise - more like a parking lot, took 2 hours to go about 4 miles
- and a silver 71 GT pulled up along side me. I followed him for a couple miles or so and heard quite a few people say "hey look at the Opel".Brain dead as I am I can't remember his name but he said he's on the site. Anyone else go? Don McLean |

Another MI Opel GT...
By coincidence, my brother snapped a picture of another Michigan Opel GT today as he was on his way to a car show. This one was spotted driving down Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. Does it belong to anyone here?

Gold Opel on Hwy 4
Spotted a gold GT on Hwy 4 last Monday (Aug 13). Might be the one described here a few posts ago.
Looked beautiful - I was very envious and my poor partner (I work on an ambulance) just couldn't figure out what I was so excited about. So, if you were driving your gold GT last Monday (at least, I think it was Monday) on Hwy 4 in Concord, CA and got honked at by a Pro-Transport ambulance, that was me saying HI!!! ![]() Nathan Strange |
