New GT oh NO!!!!

Well, I'm back at it again after being GT-less for almost three years. I found a rust free GT and snatched it up. It was delivered today. Right now it is at a repair shop getting the tank, fuel lines and carb de-gunked from 2 years of sitting.

I should get it back in a day or two then it's off to the body shop for paint. Fortunately it has spent it's whole life in Nevada and is rust free. Looks like it may have had some dents filled in the past and a repaint, but I am having the body shop take it back to bare metal.

Looks like a nice find! How'd you make it so long between Opels?

Good to see!!

I am glad to see that I am not the only Opeler this year who has gotten an Opel! It is a great feeling to have an Opel back (even though mine is non-running right now.)

Well for one I have been moving around a lot for my job. I also had another car I was restoring (91 CRX HF).

I have wanted to get another GT for a while, in fact I have been collecting parts for a 1.1L conversion, but living in the midwest it is tough to find a clean body. When this one popped up I decided to bite the bullet and pay to have it shipped across the country. Plus I figured Gil probably has another kid to put through college.

Looks nice Chris, what color are you going with for this one? Do you have wheels in mind for it?

I don't know yet. Since I am having it mostly re-done I could go with any color but I do have a pet peeve about re-painting cars in a non original color as there is always somewhere you miss unless you completely strip the car.

I have always liked the color combination of silver with a red interior, and since the interior is trashed and needs replaced anyway I could go that route. I just haven't decided yet.

For wheels unless I can find ROH Snypers I will probably stick with the stock four slot rims (right now it has the manta rims under those awful hub caps).

Here is the ROH Snyper, don't think they are made anymore though.

Hey Chris,
Great to see another "Hoosier GT" Looks like you found a real solid car. Hopefully we can check it out in person the next time the L.O.C.Os* get together.

Those stripes are very similar to the ones that were on my GT before I primed it.

Long time no see Chris! Congrats on the nice looking car... Would be nice to catch up with you at some event next year. The GT you helped me swap engines in is still running great and I hope to get it out to some shows/gatherings next year.

GT went off to the paint shop yesterday. He said it would take about two and a half to three months to complete. I am still in search of a decent rear trim strip but aside from that the car is pretty solid and it should go smoothly. I will update with pictures throughout the process.

That's a decent turn around time as long as they do a good job, mine was at the shop 2 years.

It really doesn't have much body work that needs to be done. He said the biggest issue is where the paint has cracked (due to the NV sun) and moisture got trapped between the paint and medal. Where that happened he has to grind out the surface rust and treat it. It is also a really small shop and he mainly works on non-insurance work.
