Question New Group?

I was wondering if any of you would be interested in starting a group for Mantas? I am not singling us out, just trying to get us together.

Would anyone be interested? I would start it, I just don't want to be the only one in the group...

Dean

I'd join as long as it isn't in competition for sponsors with opelgt.com and Gary.
I'm just not sure how much more it would bring over the Manta section we already have.

How about just starting a registry for surviving Manta A's and Ascona A's
It would be nice to know where they are now, who owns them and their current conditions. We owners have such a regestry for Ford Thunderbirds
and it's nice for locating other owners.

I was going to start one on the site here. We have the groups on this site. I wouldn't even think of an other website and take away from here. This site is a wealth of info!

A registry would be a good idea too!

Thunderbird Registry - For all Thunderbirds!
Many car clubs have these regestries now.

I'm in for sure then.
But also think including Asconas would be a good Idea.

I don't know? Then you could argue for Kadetts and Sportwagons too. I just thought it would be nice to get Mantas in one area.

My logic for including Ascons/Ascona Sportswagons is that they are really the same cars as the Mantas and are built with the same engines suspensons, interiors, dashes, DNA etc.
Where as the Kadetts aren't and share DNA with GT's. Some people have even bolted the front fenders, grills and hoods off of Mantas onto their Asconas and probably visa versa.

Plus many of the Manta/Ascona owners own both and have the knowledge base a group would need. I personally know them pretty well but am a Kadett/GT and other Opel ignoramus. Jmo.

I added the Asconas to the group as I understand what you mean now. I will also add the Sport wagon too.

Manta

I'm for better awareness and exposure to the Manta, we don't want to isolate ourselves from the GT segment. This type of seperation could harm us.Lets however work harder as a small group of Manta owners to show, talk, share and ask questions about our Manta's. Get us out of our garages and on the street, technical articles specific to the manta could be rerun from the archives. Every one chime in and bring forward your ideas.

This is why I wouldn't ever even think of leaving this site. I just want to be able to know who else is out there with similar interest in Mantas or Ascona/Sprotwagons.

1 Mantas

Well, the actually is a site just for Wagons, be it a Kadett or an Ascona, on Yahoo Groups, but, having one here is not a bad thing as Yahoo itself is kinda gone down hill on keeping spam and junk out.

If a new group was to be added, it would make sense for a Manta/Ascona/Sportwagon thread since the cars are so similarly built below the body. Maybe we could unify around chassis types (30-series, 50-series) to help with searches but we shouldn't lose the Manta/Ascona threads etc.

That said, GT interest (which also goes with the Kadett) has surely driven this site more than anything else - despite occasional throwdowns (in fun I hope) over whose cars are the coolest.

Also, there's a lot in common with the engines and transmissions and other hardware. Don't want to lose the cameraderie of Opel owners generally.
E pluribus unum etc.

A Manta etc. registry would be interesting.
