Not meaning to throw a wrench in here, but, wouldn't you want the steering to be unlocked with the car started and running? Personally, I'd rather have that key in there, just for safety measure.

Ahh, but see, the beauty of this is that the key MUST be in the 'run' position in order for the starter to work . . .

A few more questions, in your diagram it looks like the relay would have power while the car is running, would that harm it in any way leaving it energized like that?

The winter months are coming and I need to get started on the harness pretty soon. I'm planning on completely eliminating the cigarette lighter from the harness and modifying the lighter casing to hold the switch and replacing the heater coils with a little rubber foot and return spring

Also, it'll be a while before I need one but when I'm rebuilding the harness should I add anything as far as power for a radio?

Sorry if I offended you Jeff. I honestly didn't mean to, hence my smileys. It really was in good fun.

No offense taken, I just picked up the grenade and threw it back in your direction

Well in all seriousnessnessness. . . Do you think that my wiring diagram works? Legitimate feedback on that would be nice!

Sure your schematic will work as long as those fuses are the switched fuses in the panel. My suggestion was exactly the same except the momentary switch was supplying +12V and the other side of the relay coil was going to ground, it does not matter much which way you do it. I've always been partial to having less hot wires floating around in the engine bay or under the dash, less chances for shorts or hitting the wrong spot with a tool while you are working under there. Of course I always disconnect the battery before working on electrical stuff .
