Winter and GT
Not too many people will drive their Opels in the winter. I mean, REAL winter like we have it here in Canada.
I was home for Christmas and decided to pull my GT out from the garage where it was sitting since October. I let it run on a driveway for a while. There was a lot of snow on the ground, so it was out of question to drive it. On December 31st, the roads were dry and after few days of rain salt was washed out, so I decided to give it a short run. My wife accompanied me while the rest of the family followed in our Altima. The pictures are not of the best quality as they were taken by my daughter from the following car; still they are going into a memory book of my GT. I was really happy to steal few hours of the winter. After a family lunch at Benmiller Inn, the sky started to get dark again, so we drove back home. As I put the car in the garage and tucked it under the cover, I knew that my GT was as pleased with the opportunity to be out as I was. It was a great last day of the year. |

These are great pictures of two fine looking Opels! The Manta photos have me wanting a Manta - what a great looking car! No snow here in Georgia yet. If we get a dusting sometime this winter, as we do sometimes, all the Georgia gang should add some rare Southern snow shots of our Opels! Until then, I've added one from 2004 when my GT was still rusting away at the side of the house - this is a lot of snow for us...

Your White Manta looks great in the pictures as does the GT of P.J.
![]() Like P.J. says, not many Opelers will drive our treasures in serious snow and road salt. Here is a pic I just took out the back door of my Manta hibernating for the winter along with it's '63 Ford Thunderbird friend with my daily driver Honda van in between. Can't wait for spring to arrive!

We don't seem to get snow around here like we used to. The past five years have been light on snow but heavy on ice storms. Here's a photo from 2003 of Lynn's Kadett when it had to sit outside briefly while waiting for the new garage to be built.

The uglier side od winter Opeling....
Here is what becomes of an Opel used in the snow too much.
This is my 1975 Ascona Racer/Autocrosser/lake solo/daily driver/tow car after 11 winter of snow and salt. I sold it (really gave it away) shortly after to a distant relative for a cheap work car. It had 146K miles and still ran good. The floors and jack points were gone in front and in the trunk and after a year or so he said is begain to sag at the fire wall so he junked it. RIP!

I'm from the middle of Norway. We have 5-6 months winter here. I don't use the GT in the winter. But I drive Opel everyday. And I prefer the Senator B 3,0i 24v with aut.transmission in the winter. But the Senator A2 was a great car in the winter also. I drive a Omega B this winter, and I don't like that car. I think that the Senators have a much heavyer front, so they have a better grip on the frontwheels.

Last year we had some freezy days. No snow, but ice caused by the fog at night, I think. At the moment we have a period of serious freezing conditions with snow. -18 degrees celsius, it's many years ago that we had such low temperatures here in Limburg, The Netherlands.

If you go just below the window you type your post in, you see a button "Manage Attachments", it will bring up a window for you to go back into your pics on your pc to load.

remembering doing donuts
My GT stays inside also almost all winter.....but I do remember back when I was 19 (when I owned my first GT in 1978) I used to work at a shopping mall and was one of the first to arrive in the morning. After a nice snowfall I would barrel down the empty parking lot and yank the wheel hard left (or right) and see how many revolutions I could get.....ahhhhh memories....
