Yup - I went to the Pontiac dealer thinking I could order a G8 GT to my exact specs and was told even those can't be ordered! Luckily, I found one fully loaded in the color I wanted. I have seen posts (unverified) that the Pontiac Vibe is the only 2010 model you can order!

That's probably because they are built by the GM/Toyota joint venture at the NUMMI Plant in Fremont California, as a near-twin of the Toyota Matrix (which oddly enough is built in the Cambridge Ontario plan in Canada, not at NUMMI) . And according to this article:
G.M. to End Pontiac Vibe Production in August - Wheels Blog - NYTimes.com
even that's ending in August.
Coincidently, I was following a Vibe this morning and I wondered what GM would do with the better selling cars built and/or sold exclusively by the demised brands, Pontiac and Saturn (such as the Vibe, the Sky, the Vue and the G6 etc). Apparently GM is so focused on cutting the brand names down that they are willing to "throw the baby out with the bathwater". It makes me wonder how long it will take before they are BACK in bankruptcy court...

When Chrysler dropped the Plymouth brand, I believe they rebadged the Prowler as a Chrysler before its'(Prowler) demise. There may have been others. Just remember the GM folks running the company are WAAAY smarter than we are, just look at their paychecks.

Off to car heaven: Saturn, Saab, Hummer

Say goodbye to Saturn. And Saab and Hummer, for that matter. Pontiac, too, for all intents and purposes.
Production of Saturn cars would stop in 2011 if the brand hasn’t been sold, GM said. Execs will decide whether to pull the plug on Hummer at the end of March, though rumors of Chinese interest have emerged (and been discounted) several times. The company says Saab will be an “independent business entity as of Jan. 1, 2010.” Take that to mean “dead” unless a reluctant Swedish government can be convinced to step in. Pontiac will emerge as a “highly focused niche brand” sold through Buick and GMC Truck showrooms.
For good or bad, GM has chosen its horses: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. Would those be yours?

I have to say one final thing on this..

The BEST car I have EVER owned.. is my 2006 Pontiac GTO

Due to its rarity (Mine is Blue with a Blue Leather INterior one of only 2400 built with the Blue Leather), I have already hoarded away a complete interior, and headlights, tailights and other trim.. That way I have replacement parts for its eventual restoration in 2026..

Its like driving a BMW with a Corvette drivetrain.. 400 HP is just plain sweet..

It does look as the Holden Commodore/ Pontiac G8 may return as a Impala SS.

Heck its already done in the UAE market:

GM to investors: Don't buy our stock

The automaker warns that common shareholders will be wiped out when it emerges from bankruptcy.
Posted by Charley Blaine on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 8:51 PM
You don't see this very often, but General Motors (GMGMQ) issued one of the most ironic press releases in memory today.

It told investors to steer clear of its stock.

Almost always in a bankruptcy, the common shareholders lose their stakes because all other creditors get paid off first.

GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 1 in order to rebuild the company to better compete in a global market.

The automaker noted today that its shares had been trading above $1 since June 8 with pretty heavy volumes. It peaked on June 10 at $1.55.

The company repeated today its "strong belief that there will be no value for the common stockholders in the bankruptcy liquidation process, even under the most optimistic of scenarios."

Investors apparently heard the warning. The stock fell 16.7% to 91 cents.
