2.7 million mile car

Sorry, it isn't an Opel. The July/August issue of the AARP Magazine has an article about how is is usually much cheaper to keep an older car and keep it running than it is to replace it with a new car. They mention a man named Irv Gordon who bought a Volvo P1800S in 1966 and still drives it. It now has 2.7 million miles on it. He currently drives it about 100,000 miles a year! I have a '96 Acura Integra which we have put nearly 270,000 miles on and I was thinking that was pretty high mileage. Now I see that I'm only about at 10% of what Mr. Gordon has on his Volvo. Bill

Mr. Gordon and his Volvo are pretty well known.
I saw the AARP article recently too.
He's been in Volvo ads and in several other mags and TV shows like Motorweek as well.
At one time at least, he said he liked to just go on long drives
with the car with no particular task in mind. I wonder if
gas prices have altered his thinking. Ha!

He definitely drives it...no trailering! Twice I've passed him on the way down to the Carlisle show (he was cruising along at about 60-65 mph), only to see him at the fairgrounds later on.

This car was at the Iola, WI car show last weekend. It does not look like it has a 100,000 miles much less 2 million. It must have been recently restored because it looks great.

Yup, Irv and his car were at Carlisle just this past May. I think everyone that was there had the pleasure of seeing how well maintained his car is.

Thought I would add a few pics that I took at Iola. You can see Irv seated behind his Volvo in one of the pics. I chatted with him for a bit - seem like a nice guy, and his car is certainly in excellent shape! The mileage badges lined up across the front are pretty nifty.
