Garage
Barn Find: 14 Opels in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada

I just asked a man about an Opel Manta on his drive way (he's selling the house) he showed me 1 more inside the garage along with 3 GTs and he has 6 more GTs and 2 more Manta's in storage at another property thats for sale also. Thats a total of 14 Opels he wants me to make an offer on the lot. From what I saw the 3 GT's look real nice ,one is missing interior but he says he has enough parts seats, engines, trannies, to complete all the GT's. A big project but what would the cost be? He is in his sixties and wants to move back to Europe. Any thoughts? Check my photos of the 6 I've seen

Is this is Winnipeg? What part? I am about two hours SE of there tonight at my cottage at Moose Lake (just North of Sprague). I grew up in Winnipeg and bought my current GT there back in '76. Hmm, how mad would Myrna be if we made a SMALL detour on the way home to Calgary tomorrow (well, actually as far as Moose Jaw and then on to Calgary Tuesday)? Oh oh, I was just given the answer. Anyway, what part of town does this guy live and what's his name? I can't believe that I don't know about his stash. Hey, is that a Rekord or Senator sedan I see in that one photo under the tree? I think Rionart (aka Rob Cassidy from Toronto) needs to take a road trip with a car carrier. Fourteen Opels in Winnipeg! Who'd have thunk!!!

Looks like a Rekord Keith...
I'm heading in the opposite direction for the Newfie Targa....which may be a good thing under the circumstances..
Hey, if it keeps Myrna happy, tell her you are checking out the Manta's for me...

That's a "C" Rekord, If the rims are 4 bolt, if they are 5 bolt its an "A" Comodore.

I would give up vital body parts for a Fastback Rekord C.

I see that you have posted some more photos of the Winnipeg Opel find. Any more details available? I'll be coming through Winnipeg on October 3 to close the cottage, and back through October 5. I am not sure I'll have any time (likely on the Monday if at all) but drop me a PM with your phone number if you want to chat or better yet see some of these if I do get time. I see that you are in North Kildonan, so I might be able to drop by on the way to airport on Monday (I fly out at 8:00 pm and I am coming in from Hwy 1 east)

WOW I had not seen the other pictures until now....... we have to save these cars. Some look in really decent shape. Did the owner ever ball park a price?

Sorry I hav'nt checked this thread, new to the forum I bought the 3 gts and he moved the other 3 to his other place. He has a 4 door Record 3 mantas 6 GT's and one other Opel not sure what it is.I was there last week to get some more parts and the copps showed up and gave him 30 days to get rid of the 2 on the driveway the rest are OK because he has them all in the oversized 2 car garage.

What is left?

This seems like a great opportunity! I have a few questions:

What does he have left in terms of GT's?

What are the laws about getting them into the usa?

Thanks,

Rob

Getting a car older than 25 years into the USA is fairly easy. I imported a 1962 Rekord Coupe from Europe this spring. There are some forms to fill out. You have to pay some import duty and post a small bond. What the bond is for I don't know. My biggest problem so far is waiting for the state to issue my title since the title I turned in is in Swedish! If any one really wants to know, I will look up what forms I had to fill out. Bill
