GT arrives in a couple of really long hours...a couple questions have occurred to me:
- Insurance, particularly for VA: any recommendations, horror stories? Need an appraisal done if I go with my current carrier. Any experience in this area?
- Car cover: garage is filled with motorcycles and bicycles. Car will sit out (on an area where the ground stays dry). Need a recommendation for a decent GT-fitting car cover. Any suggestions?
Wish me luck. Car carrier driver says the car barely runs (carb sounds like it needs a rebuild...which coincidentally I really love doing)

I'm with Grundy collector car insurance. They only required photos of the car and an agreed value for the policy (they agreed on my value which I set at my total cost of restoration). Since then, I have had two policy renewals come up with only a minor increase in premium and with Grundy automatically increasing the car's agreed value by 3% per year. Grundy is the only insurer I could find that truly has no annual mileage limit. Their CEO is on My Classic Car quite often (Speed Channel) and he has even said on the air that they want you to drive your car. The only stipulation is that you have to have another car that carries the bulk of your annual miles.
I just called Grundy and they are not willing to cover me!!!
Apparently 18 y/o males get in to accidents too frequently, especially in performance vehicles like sports cars . . . Who knew?...
I forgot to mention that I had to sign a statement agreeing that no one under the age of 25 would drive the car - seriously. I use this little fact to keep my 17 year old son from driving the GT. "Sorry son, but my hands are tied - the insurance company won't let me let you drive the car!"

lol...that works for me! I have an 18-year-old at ODU and a 14 year old with one eyebrow raised. Consider, though, that I just sold a 305HP 96 Cobra and what that did to my insurance bill.

If you want to get one that will last, fits well and worth the money, check out Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories. I had one of their inside covers (meaning cover for while the car is parked in a garage) and it fit like a glove. They also offer outside covers.

Well...here's the scoop...
Picked up the car. Transport company dropped her off 2 miles from my house (can't get an 18 wheeler up my road). The 2 month old paint job...might as well have saved the paint. The body work looks like it was done by a 12 year old.
To make matters worse, the floor pan and rocker panels that were put in...not such a great job, and there is still at least one nice-sized hole in the floor.
Car doesn't run well. Throttle sticks, but it does have a Weber. But then the snorkle looks like it was hogged out with a pair of dull snips and a case of beer to get it to fit.
The "new" brakes don't work. The 2 mile ride home was at about 20MPH so I could coast to a stop in case of an emergency.
The center caps...hard to type this without laughing...are "glued" on with expanding foam.
The "velour" that was used to "reupholster" the bottom of the seats is glued on with what looks like old chewing gum. The headliner that "could use a couple patches"...let's just call that an understatement.
The entire interior looks like it was treated with Duplicolor...in the dark...with eyes closed tight.
So my dream of a $6000 car for $3000...not so much realized. More like a $2000 car for $3000, IMO. But on the up side: the car is complete and with a few weekend's work and a few parts could be made to run well. But I'm thinking total restoration at this point. And if I'm going there...might as well build a Conrero replica or do a body kit, put in the Miata engine, and restomod the crap out of it.
Don't get me wrong...I paid a relatively small amount of money for a running 36 year old antique on Ebay. I got roughly what I paid for, although not as much as I had hoped to get. If I had it to do all over again I'd look for a car for sale through this site that's well-known by the members.
Sounds like the car was really only worth between $500 and $1k, I made the same mistake when I bought my GT from Opels Unreachable, but I think I did a little better than you did from your description. Good Luck.
