I had a '68 Kadett wagon EXACTLY like that, the same light blue and roof rack and even with the 1.5 CIH, way back in 1984. But the ad says it has a 3 speed manual, and I recollect mine having a 4 speed. Did the '68 1.5 ever come with a 3 speed manual?

I think all the manuals of that year were 4 speeds.

The seller corrected the 3 speed to a 4 speed. Like all of us here, he made a typo.

Arrow The only 3-speed manual transmission . . .

. . . ever offered on US Import Opel models was the "3-on-the-tree" offered on all 1958-1962 Olympia Rekord models!

This transmission was essentially identical to the later 4-speed offered on the CIH engines, just without the fourth gear. The German Rekords from '63 forward offered the "4-on-the-tree" transmissions until the onset of CIH engine power in the late '60s.

At least in Europe you could already have the 4 on the tree as an option with the Rekord P2 model from June 1962 on and as standard in the new Rekord L luxury 4dr. sedan with the "hi-po" engine (about 70 SAE hp) that was supposed to compete with the BMW new class sedans and Borgward Isabella. Only about 18000 cars produced and probably not available in the US.

I hate to dispute with you, Otto, but my parts book which covers the P1 and P2, shows that a four-speed was available on the full range of P2 models in Germany. This transmission was a column shifted unit. I have a brochure for the Rekord A Coupe (in Swedish) which clearly shows a floor-mounted shifter. My Rekord P2 Coupe has this transmission, as well, probably installed more recently. Here are copies of two pages from the brochure which show the floor-mounted shifter. Bill

4spd floor shift was standard in the Rekord A coupe and all Rekord 6 models (4dr sed./coupe). 4cyl. sedans could be optioned with 4 on the tree or floor shift, 3speed was standard.
