Not to put a damper on our ideas, but what would be the point in a jag v-12 swap or even a viper v-10 swap into a gt. Both of them are very large motors considering the engine bay area of the gt. Even more, they would both be very expensive to get more hp out of. The most practical idea by far is the chev. smallblock considering it would be relatively close to the same amount of work, parts are much cheaper, and it would be somewhat opel related (since gm and opel worked together). Not to mention, there would be no computer to worry about depending on how you build the sb.

matt the first point is i have the jag anyway and the top body is dead
i live in great britain and small block chevys are very thin on the ground hear
i am starting at 305 bhp(not a bad number to start with i think you will agree ) and if i put throttle bodys or uprate the injection system i can go mega on power without even thinking of turbos (i think 4 would be enough and small enough to avoid lag {yes i have thought about it })its not a hugh leap high three figure power numbers that way
cost for chevy bits hear is low due to the strength of the dollar (sorry i cant help but laugh when i say that )(plus as of last week we now have chevy dealers well they renamed on of the asian makes chevy but i dont think i will be able to walk in and order a bowtie engine )
the jag V12 is 36" long and 28 " wide so yes it is a lot of work but a chevy V8 i think is a 90 deg and the jag is 60 so its a lot narrower as i say i think
but if you read rons work to put a V 6 in you will see that any V swop is a big job as to brand loyalty within GM im not
i will use any thing at any time + im a ford driver by choice and as to computers well am no technophobe so i say bring it on
(its the way to go in the end so may as well get in now )

ps did i say that i will be shortening the floor 5" so the wheel base is the same
it will be 4" wider but a set of conrero wheel arches will sort that and the end car should look like a conrero from most angles

It will look like a Conero - from behind (where most other GT ownwers will be with their weedy fours and sixes!)
There is a 7.0 litre Turbo'd V12 XJS roaming the streets of Christchurch - everyone else (specially the "Rice Boys") stays home.

i know an xjs needs another 100 bhp to live with a modern super car and think i can make close to that with new cams and t/bodys or even going to 4 original throttle bodys instead of 2 with something like the new megasquirt or emerald 3 ecu's + the gt will still be around 2500 lb instead of the jags 3400lb or there about
and i just thought we can say its in keeping with GM as they share injectors with the 75 mantas and 1900s

i know its a tenuous link but its a link

Another V12

A guy in the UK Opel GT Owners Club runs a 'A' series Manta with twin turbos. Last time I went out in it it was pushing 420bhp at the wheels, running a Jag autobox, but the engine was poorly and was in the process of dying.

Since then he's converted the car to a 5 speed manual and has also picked up some Lister pistons and conrods, so the capacity has increased and so has the power

i was talking with jim on the chat area a while ago and did have 1 idea
that may be open to imput here
does any one know how a slide throttle (like 60's-70's F1 )works
is it as simple as it looks (a slider with holes in it for each port a cable and a return spring )
and whats ports are in a modern throttle body (main , idel and what have you )

i must admit to liking the idea of a slide bar throttle body on each bank and 2 rows of trumpets in a perspex cover in the hood

ps apologes for hijacking the thread j

its the slider you see in the film "gran prix" with jimmy garner that i was thinking of
you get a shot of 8 holes opening and the fuel spraying in at the bottom of the holes
12 of them would just be so nice to watch, think of the money i can spend blipping the throttle to watch that
they may be a bit on / off but what the hell

other choice would be to rob throttle bodys from some jap motor bikes and do some flanges to mount them with

Baz, how many engine swaps have you done? Does anyone have any pics of a gt with a swap like this? Extending the front end and shortening the cab doesnt sound like such an easy task

lengthening the front and shortening the cab would make it resemble a Cheetah, REAL sexy car.

lets see now
first change to my gt was rework the tranny tunnel then put a 2 litre lotus 16 valver in with a gearbox from a 1800 vauxhall shorten the prop to i think it was 8" and fit electric fuel pump did 152 flat out and 60 in mid 7's
next change was to ford 1.8 cvh and ford g/box (economy mod when i was not working those lotus engines are thirsty beasts )
after that i put in a 2.8 Litre BMW straight 6 and getrag box had to shorten the gear change and fab a new mount for the dizzy as that would of stuck up through the hood ,and a new hood that was a little like the one for a manta 2800
next came the big work
went to jaguar 3.4 straight 6 and moss box with electric overdrive(a switch on the gear knob worked a laycock box on the back of the moss box to give 1st,2nd,3rd,3rd overdrive,4th,4thoverdrive)to go with this i changed all running gear to jag, took out the inner fenders and removed the front end and made it a quick release to give beter access
latest work on hold as i have some health problems i can not shift this last year and a half is to go to jag 5.3 V12 i could rework the front end and fit it in with opel steel work but i would have to cut out the tranny tunnel to get the drive in and i need to change the way the rear axel mounts any way as its to high
so i thought the easy way was to remove the body from the jag as i said ,cut the floor back5" to get the wheelbase right, i need to take 4" out of the width to match the gt's width so i can join it back up to the opel where the floor would spot weld to the rockers (sills here)and i can take the back out around the rails for the rear suspension and use the jag rails to get the ride hight to match to get a tank in i am looking at making a trunk lid in the area of the flat panelwhere the filler cap is so i can get a tank in as it will not pass over the rear deck as in the original
all wiring will change to jaguar just the conections at the ends to change to fit the opel lights and bits

i will not be lenthening the front end or shortening the cab it will be a stock body with conrero body kit
i dont think it has been done before as i think i am the only one crazy enough
and i dont have any pics apart from a few when i was mockin up the 3.4
as you can see it was a bit high to start with
http://www.opelgt.com/forums/attachm...achmentid=3788

the v12 pic is p/shopped to work out some things bofor i went with the way above
the straight 6 is were it mounted before i worked out the ride hight
