Stay on topic
I agree with some of what has been said but, please stay on topic. (Please
)I think the price in Atlanta will top out at $3.00 at my gas station. If it goes any higher you will get a lot of us will stop driving our cars. I think folks in other parts of the country will allow it to go to $4.00 or $5.00 before they park their cars.

it is in a way , Portugal pays almost the same as here for gas but on half the income for minimum wage or in reality twice what i pay for gas in real terms
if you do the same for the states (dont know the average or minimum wage for there ) it gives a better idea of what it costs around the world oh and from what happened here it does not matter what they put the price up to you will pay for it every time , gripe and moan buy open up your wallet and hand it over , same here for alcohol and tobacco all 3 are taxed at around 75%

Well, here in Tucson we are paying ~$3.00/gal. On the east side of town the gas comes from the east and on the west side of the town the gas is piped in from the west(California). There is a 5 cent difference and higher on the west side.
Last year when we lived in NC we spent ~$100/week. Now we are paying ~$30. How do we manage the difference? We ride our bikes alot. Even when it is 100 degrees outside we still ride. At some time in the near future we are going to need to reevaluate our consumption of natural resources. I still drive my cars but only when I need to, like to car shows. At this time we are only faced with high prices. What is going to happen when we see mandatory rationing? I forsee jobs going away or gas costs being negotiated into salaries. Companies forced to relocate to warmer climates as cost of heating and commuting getting too expensive. Or the forced relocating of employees closer to factories. Who cares if you make more money if you don't have gas to put in your car? 40 years is the largest number of years I have heard at this time that we have before we deplete our supplies of fuel. There is no magic wand someone is going to wave and then there will be more fuel. Time to get off my soap box. I would love to see gas prices go down. But in my best G. W. Bush voice I say "it ain't going to happen". Mike |

As long every body who uses gas, doesn't, in some way, try to cut their gas consumption, say with 5-10%, the prices are going to go up instead of down
.Here in Holland, where I live, we are paying 1.45 euro for a liter [1 l = 0.26 gallon = 0.22 imp. gallon] gas and about 7 km away, in Germany, the liter gas costs 1.40 euro [RON 95]

Clearwater, FL regular gas costs about $2.85 to $2.95 per gal.
Been letting my F150 sit, it gets about 14 around town! I have been driving my GT, gets about 22-24mpg if I keep my foot from pushing too hard. Forget public transit.........get a motorcycle! My GSXR 750 gets 40mpg and goes 0-60mph in 3 seconds! Lyle |

Last Sunday gas had jumped from $2.99 to $3.12, today its $3.39!!!!!!!
Compared to places like Cali, that's not too bad, but in Ft Smith, Ark that's outta sight. Being a border town to Oklahoma, the full ARK state tax is not added here so we're usually 5 -10 cents cheaper than the rest of the state. Normally, our prices have been in line with Georgia and South Carolina the past couple of years.... So fill up all the lawn mower jugs because prices will be going up there too...

wow some those prices are low...
The price of premium fuel where I am is about $3.54/gallon, regular unleaded is 20 cents cheaper per gallon at $3.34/gallon. It has been this price now for a few months now. The last high price we felt was over $3.60 Oregon: Cars are cheap out here but gas isn't. |

It appears that price gouging is happening across the Continent, supposedly due to a lack of refining capacity. I fuelled up my IS300 last night, and the posted price for Regular was $1.219/litre, and the price on the pump for Premium (after a 3 1/2 cent discount) was $1.284. The Canuck dollar is on a roll these days (about 91 cents/$USD), but the price still works out to $5.34US/USGallon. Ouch!

Kiwiland today ...
Just filled up the Senator:
Regular (91 octane) $NZ1.599 a litre Super (95 octane) $NZ1.649 Premium (98 octane) $NZ1.699 Bottled Water $NZ2.10 a litre Milk $NZ2.40 a litre Coke $NZ2.56 a litre ($NZ3.20 for 1 1/4 litres) And if petrol is expensive - what does that make water, milk and Coke ?? BTW: The Senator demands 98 octane fuel ...... but I got a 4cents a litre discount with a SuperMarket voucher! ![]()

Gas Price Soap-Box
Regarding rapidly rising fuel prices; my suspicions lay with the retailers rather than the wholesalers or producers. Here's an example scenario:
Local news stations will report a refinery fire, (which may even occur in another country) and then immediately launch into uninformed, unverified, and unprofessional speculation about how the refinery shut-down will escalate prices at the pump. Hey, surprise! Within hours, pump prices have jumped, supposedly due to higher prices poor unfortunate gas station owners have been charged by the evil empire wholesalers. However, the fuel being pumped (at the higher price) was purchased per a pricing schedule established prior to any such refinery fire. We have a term to describe this. It's called "gouging", and not "free market enterprise". It's unethical, if not illegal. And it's unfortunate that the news community facilitates it. Because, without such irresponsible broadcast speculation by industry outsiders, should the retailers raise prices unilaterally throughout the region based on their discussions & speculation with each other, they could be charged with price fixing, which is illegal. But, lucky them, they've got broadcasters who apparently failed to pay attention (or possibly) not even have attended their journalism classes, if they were even enrolled in the first place. So, in my opinion, price gouging retailers and unprofessional news casters contribute to a large portion of the situation. |

Sorry to get on a soap box - this is a good group, and a good forum. I'll stick to what we come here for; Opels. I am appreciative of the relatively low cost of fuel we enjoy in this country. There's fewer examples of getting so much for so little when we consider that for $3.34 we can experience a half hour of high spirited enjoyment in our Opels. And I plan to drive mine while I still have the opportunity to do so.
But if I must pay more to enjoy my car, I want it to be for a good reason. |

The oil companies can see the writing on the wall. The Baby boomers want a cleaner enviroment....and there is the talk of climate change....true or false it doesn't matter. The population beleive there is climate change due to human burning oil products and the human population is startign to move away from oil based fuels.
I figure the oil companies are grabbing for profits while they still can as I think the average person will abandon oil based fuels long before the supply runs out. Here's the kicker. gas is more expensive in Canada......than the US.....but we sell the US plenty of it's gas. I would expect the price to be cheaper or the same in Canada as we are an exporter of fuel and the US is an importer or fuel. Gas in Canada is over US$5 per US gallon.....fuel taxes are based on cents per liter....so the taxes remain at a fixed amount per quanity regardless of the price. So it a case of the oil companies charging more and more for a declining resource. It now costs close to US$100 to fill up my Porsche 928 and that will get me about 280 miles. Not that I rerally care......it's not my daily driver. My Miniovan gets 16m/p/Impgal my Supra get 19m/p/Impgal Driving an Opel is seriously cheap. Steve B
