    Tires and Engine heat!!

Two questions for anyone. How much is the speedometer thrown off when you go from stock 13" tires to 15" tires?
Who's has the best solution for keeping heat out of the interior of the car coming mainly up thru the tranny tunnel? Already installed a layer of insulating foil faced padding in the whole tunnel and it helped tremendously. Tempted to do the same with the floor area on the drivers side but, I'm afraid it would just be ripped off > Thanks for any help. It's hot enough here in Florida, I don't need hot feet when I'm cruising around in my GT!!

There's a tire computer you can use at www.tirerack.com that will help you figure out the tires you'll need to maintain a close to accurate speedo reading. When I took out the floor carpet on Willit? the was a layer of about 1" of foam under the carpet and some tar like insulation covering the whole pan. Now that I'm looking to start the interior, I'm gonna lay down an insulation blanket of water heater stuff, than the layer of foam, than the carpet. Never had a foot heating problem here in sunny SoCal though. HTH.

#1) stock tire diameter is about 23-1/2".
I have 195/ 60R-14 tires to get the same dia.
Check with a tire store, but I think a 215/50R-15 is the right dia!?
#2) I have the same problem with heat coming in around the tunnel area!
I was going to do the pad thing like you, where did you get the padding?
I was concerned about holding moisture in and rusting!!!!!!
What part of Florida do you live in?

Should we really be talking about it being too hot? The Opeler's up north would like a little heat leaking in!

I've only been in Florida for 1 1/2 years. Left the deep snow of Massachusetts For the Sanford area. Don't regret it too much. I'm wearing shorts, and my buddies up north are still freezy in their long johns.
I was really wondering how many miles per hour the speedometer is off by, I already switched to 15" tires 4 years ago. The floor and the whole interior I covered with Dynamat. Real exspensive. Foam and then carpeted. I got the insulated foil faced padding from JC Whitney. Stuff works real good at a decent price too.

Like they say though>you get used to the heat. I never thought I would, but I also never thought I'd be wearing shorts all year round either I've got 205/50/15 TOYO FZ4 tires on ROH SNYPER 15x7 rims.

That tire is about 23.2" diameter, perfect! The GT speedometer showed a couple mph faster with stock tires. So 55mph indicated is about 52mph actual.
Just go 55mph in a 25mph zone and the cops will check your speed for about $135.
    Click it or ticket!
He said, "Heres your ticket, nice car what is it?"
Damn, why did I buy that 38 DGAS!!!!

I wonder what the ticket would be for doing 130 mph on I-4. At least the speedometer isn't off by too much. Doesn't seem like I was doing 130 but then, no one was passing me either!! Sure wish I trusted the front end and whole steering feeling. Haven't driven a GT that fast since I had my first one in 1976. But I'm sure I'll get used to it.

130 indicated is about 123mph actual, if my calculations are correct.
    Thats fast!
