C'mon, let's spend the night detailing and shootin' all the

Don, won't know until the last minute. I will let you know as soon as I know. I would love to shoot the bull, not too many people around here speak Opel.

Alex asked me to plot a course for the fun run. The side loop we took to Georgetown last year is probably not an option this year. I heard that CA193 from Georgetown to Placerville had problems. We could descend from Georgetown to Coloma via Marshall Grade but everyone would have to assure me their brakes were in top notch condition. I have smoked pads on that descent.

The best route considering the condition of the roads is probably our old standby. Meet at Starbucks in Auburn, take CA49 through the N. Fork Am. River gorge, jump off near Pilot Hill on Salomon Falls Road. This takes us through El Dorado Hills where we proceed south on Latrobe Road to CA16. East on CA16 to CA 49 and follow CA 49 to Sonoma.

One alternate route would be to stay on CA49 from Auburn to Coloma. Then turn south on Lotus/N. Shingle Rd at the S. Fork Am. River bridge to Mother Load Dr. at Shingle Springs Just after crossing US50. East on Mother Load to Pleasant Valley Rd and then south on CA49 at El Dorado. This route takes us through the Consumnes River valley and into Plymouth. We stay on CA 49 to Sonoma.

Is anyone interested in the side trip we took a few years ago through Copperopolis? This route misses Sonoma and the New Melones Reservoir?

If anyone has any other ideas, please speak up.

For some reason I am not getting email alerts from this thread, so I will need to check in daily to see what is happening.

    GOld Rush to Gils

I was thinking of going to Placerville breakfast at Mels and then following Hwy 49 south to Hwy 108 to Gils (BORING), but with the hillsides rearranging the terrain it may be the best. I am way south of there and not aware of what is happening except family keeps me informed about the Sacramento area.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, it's been a while since I've posted on the forums.

I emailed Gil about a week ago asking if the 15th would work for him. He suggested the 22nd or 29th as alternate dates, as the 15th is still Easter weekend.

    What do you guys think?

I will be there no matter what weekend it is, but since I get to voice my druthers, I would say either the 22nd or 29th would really be my first choice. I am sure some people will be traveling that weekend, and that would put a damper on having all available Opels accounted for.

So if this is a vote, I say the 22nd or 29th would be a better choice.

    Golld Rush to Gils

All right if we are going to vote the 22nd (Happy Birthday to me) works for me. On the 29th The family is taking me on a birthday cruise to Mexico so if that date wins my thoughts will be with you all.

The later dates would have been better for me originally, but I had planned everything around the 15th when that became the date and now I probably can't make the other dates. Honestly, even the 15th would be a bit of a grind for me so there's a chance I would have to bow out anyway.

    Saturday 29th of April

So it seems that there have been various dates that have been suggested and over time those dates have come closer and closer. I messaged Gill last night and Saturday April 29th would be good for him that also gives all of us plenty of time to make arrangements in our schedules and do any last minute car repairs.

I think a normal meet and greet time between 7:30 and 8 a.m. at Starbucks in Auburn California be a good destination to start off with. Then a projected departure time of 8:30 a.m.

Please RSVP with a simple yes or no on whether you will be able to do April 29th.

I also have some other car friends I would like to invite to go on the run with us. All of the Opel will be in the front of the run and the remaining cars would be in the back of the run and would depart at some point and go on their own way as we continue toward Gil house

Thanks, Bob. I have a 94 year-old dad and don't like to leave town unless he has someone nearby as he has Parkinsons and is frail.. Other family members come down occasionally and stay with him, which allows me to get away, and his step daughter is going to be here on the 15th. No such luck on the 29th.

Cam, I totally understand, hope we can meet somewhere between the fun runs, if not then next year.

    Saturday 29th of April

Saturday 29th of April we will meet at Starbucks in Auburn. Meet and greet from 730-830. Departure at 830 am. Please bring your 2 way handheld cb radios if you have one. Route info to come.

I have invited some of my friends from Sacramento Atea Miata Owners Association to follow us on the run. They will follow behind us and most likely depart from the run when we get to Sonora and go back home vis 4/99 as we continue to OGTS on our own.
