Ok;
The 14th Annual Orphan Car Show is now in the books, and I'm happy to annouce, that untill the Brit car group showed up near the end, the Opel Marque had more cars there than any other Marque!! The weather was great, nice and sunny, not as much wind as last year, but, we had the proper cabanas this year (right Ging?) Still we got a bit toasted, but, it was great fun just talking, meeting people and answering questions.
There were 10 Opels this year, 3 Sportwagons, 2 Mantas, and 5 GTs. In attendence were Ging & Dan White (Ging & MrGing), Brian (burst), myself & family (bqs4), Tony (Pheonix), Oliver Siebert & son Josh, Ken Litke (opelblitz) with the C&D TV GT, Dieter and Nicole (hiemue), Mike & Chris (crfssy), and new member DDustin came by. No Opels won any awards, but, the organizer, Rick Kamen, came by and said that if we could promise at least 5 Opels next year, he'd have an award as a group for us, and if we could 10, and 5 were GTs, he'd have two awards set up for the Opels.

Great to meet everyone

It was great to meet everyone at the show.

Lots of nice looking Opels for sure.

Does anyone have the phone number of the guy selling the Opel on Ebay?

David

Gene, that's fantastic, great pics too. Sure wish I could have extended our trip to be there, but after 3 weeks on the road the kids(4-legged ones) were getting a bit boisterous and wanting to get out and run.

Rick;
That one is owned by Mike and Chris (cfrssy) from Gainesville, currently. It has the 2.3 5-spd from a FORD just like Paulie's, but, this is a non-turbo. Excellent detail throughout the car. I also got to talk to Rick Kamen about next year's show, which is Saturday May 5th (Snellville Days are always the first Saturday in May). He also introduced me to the Brit car group's leader. He asked if we, all the Opelers would like to join them on a little "fun run" the last Saturday of the year, which is Dec. 30th. This is a tradition of theirs to take a final drive of the year to enjoy being out in our cars, nothing special, and the final destination is like where all can hang out and eat or whatever. One year they drove through the N. GA mountains and ended up in Helen, GA. I will keep the southern Opelers (GA, AL, FL, SC, TN, etc) posted as to what this years run is. I must say, we Opelers) have really set the example as to what can be done in just a few short years. It used to be just me, then one more Opel, then last year we had lots of Opels show, and this year was even better, so mark your calenders for May 5th 2007 and let's REALLY make a show of it. The Studebaker club has ALWAYS taken the "club" award, but, they didn't have it this year, which we could have taken it, so let's get going and get the cars in shape.

Gene,
Can you point me to a tread for the 2.3 5-speed conversion?

How does it compare with the GM v6 conversions of old (hp wise).
Thanks

Dustin;
As for the 2.3, you'll have to ask cfrssy or roosterrick, as they have done them and there really is no detailed thread on here. But, there is a detailed thread on the GM V6 in the thread "Willit?" by Namba. There are a few others who have done the GM conversion, but, they will have to be contacted individally to get the various pieces of info you might need

David, depending on which book you read the advertised HP on the box stock GM 3.4 V-6 I've installed in Willit? is either 160 or 166 HP. HTH.

The show was really great and it was awesome to meet some of the owners of these cars , some I remember from the cookout from last year. I was a real treat to see Kens car as well as Mikes awesome conversion. There were a lot of other cars there which were amazing to see as well. There was a Jensen Incerceptor, Alfa Montreal, AMX Javelin, and an Avanti which really stood out. One guys Hudson took two awards.

Just to keep all the Opelers up to speed, I was talking to one of the Studebaker owners, they had another meet on Sunday, the next Orphan Car Show looks to be a MAJOR event, with sponsers BIG TIME. We're talking "Good Mark" wihich is the other supplier of GM parts, Chrysler and one or two others. There's also a drive to get one or several big name classic cars to promise to be there next year. So, keep watcing this thread and I'll pass on any info I get.
Gene

Bumping this onto the front page. The Orphan Car Show for 2007 is May 5th in Snellville, GA. Last year we had a great turn out with about 10 cars, this year we need more. I was told last year if we get 10 Opels this year, we'd be up for a possible award, if 5 of that 10 was GT's we'd be up for another possible award, so, let's get things geared up and mark your calendars, and let's have a great showing this year!!
