Have you put RainX on the windshield? I used it on the GTs and when I had it on I did not have to use the wipers at all. It was great ![]() Just an idea. Everyone take a lot of photos, please. And think of me...I will be in the middle of all the weather we get this weekend up in the North GA Mt. "Fun, Fun". (What I do for my boys!!) |

It was good seeing everyone yesterday! The drive over from Gene's house was especially cool - seeing all those Opels lined up on the road. Too bad we had to scramble out of there when the rain really started coming down. I'm thinking about going back over today for a while - anyone else going back?
Matt P.S. I'll post some pictures later... |

Orphan Car Show 2008 is done and here's my report:
Mother nature didn't really want to co-operate on Saturday, it was still a decent day with a couple of sprinkles and a "shower" lasting about 15 minutes, but, that was enough to send most home, althought this didn't happen till the middle of the afternoon. We had 9 Opels in attendence, so at that point we had the Studebaker guys REALLY beat. In attendence were myself and family, Tony Holcomb (phoenix), John Lewis (guyopel), Oliver Siebert (halo-effect), Dan and Lisa Helander (wrench459 & sandspur) Brian and Carol (burst), Dieter Heininger (heimue), Matt Newman (newman27), and Juan (blancojp) There were 2 Sportwagons, 1 Manta Rallye, 1 Kadett, and 5 GTs. We still get the usual people coming by saying "my (fill in the blank) had an Opel" There were also a few European transplants that stopped by and had a smile, remembering Opels. Dieter disappeared for a while, but, upon his return, he informed us that a photographer from Hemmings wanted to do an upcoming story on Dieter's Kadett, so, we're REALLY making a come back on the automotive scene through Hemmings. In the awards department, Tony Holcomb got 3rd, or bronze, myself, I got 2nd or silver, and John Lewis got 1st or gold in the "Opel division", and Dan and Lisa Helander got the "Children's Choice" award for his freshly painted VERY MUCH orange GT. Since it rained on Saturday, we came back today, although not many Opels were there, just 4, my Sportwagon, Tony's, John's, and Brian's GTs. But, unlike Saturday, it was VASTLY sunny and we got sun-burned! The 2009 Orphan Car Show is to be taken over by the GA Opelers and the Studebaker club. Rick Kamen has been doing this by himself for 16 years, and he's tired, but, he doesn't want to see the show die, so we're picking up the torch. I will keep ya'll posted on the developements of that. Here's some pics of the show. Last edited by BQS4; 05-05-2008 at 08:51 AM.. |

Congrats guys! It was fun even with the weather being iffy on Saturday. I ended up giving in to chores around the house on Sunday and couldn't make it back over for day two - the lawn looked really bad. Exciting news too about Dieter's car - can't wait to see that article!

Don't get all exited about the Kadett story. The reporter told me "A regular story takes about 2 years from shooting until it is finally in the magazine, but since this here is part of a small series called "Drivable Dreams", it'll come out pretty soon, maybe even within 2008"...
Don't hold your breath! ![]() Anyway, I am exited!!!Dieter |

Didn't make it
Well, tried to get there and got almost 2 miles away from the house but the rain was so much I could not continue. I am glad though I got there before everyone scrambled and I am so very glad the Stud guys saw we overcame their numbers.
Till next time. |

It was a great gathering on Saturday despite the rain.
Sunday was a little lacking in Opels but you can't expect people to devote 2 days to show all the time or drive as far as some people have to with the price of gas now-a-days. I spent half the day at the OCS but then when over to the Peachstate Chevelles show in Gainesville like I had planned to do. I left a little late. It's so hard to pry myself away for John's info, but I can't spend too long looking at Chevelles anyway. It seems that everyone HAS to be restored to factory spec. It's like being at a showroom with nothing but the same car. There were a couple that were very worth seeing and I always love seeing El Caminos. It was a little strange though. 50 or so cars and no owners anywhere? I'll post my pics of both shows later. |

That's what's good about Opel owners they do not mind talking to others who want to ask questions .

The OCS is such an interesting show. There are such a wide range of cars and years. When it doesn't rain you see some really neat cars. I love the Avantis, AMXs, TR6s, TR7s, and TR8s, and some of the oddballs that show up. This year there was a cool Studabaker with a built up V8.
John just completed his rear-end. He put truck LEDs into the stock housings and cut down the bushing to bring the bumpers closer in. |

I went over to the Peachstate Chevelles Show in Gainesville about 1:30. I don't know if a lot of cars had already left but there were some nice ones that were still there. Some nice wagons. I love Els. There were probably some "special" Chevelles that were wasted on my ignorant self, but I wouldn't know. I took pics of all of them
