Unanswered: headlight rewire question

So I'm doing the headlight rewire and boy are those wires in bad shape. Definitely the origionals. Only one question. Why do we only replace the yellow and white wires? I have three wires going to each bucket. The third appears to be brown and isn't brittle like the other two. Thanks.
Troy

The Germans love to color the ground wire "brown"

instead of black.

Where did you read to only replace 2 wires??????Do them ALL and clean up connections as you go. Only makes sense to do everything at once while your at it.....

I traced it back to the ground and figured I would go ahead and replace all three. It was I believe an OMC tech sheet that instructs to replace only the two. It doesn't make mention of the brown wire. Thanks to all.

I hope you are doing the entire conversion to a relay system. Well worth it, and since you are in there you should do the conversion to take the load off the headlight switch. Also the difference in headlights' brightness will be much appreciated.

Germans use the same color coding almost unchanged to this day. My dad's 2001 mercedes has all grounds with brown insulation, constantly live positive cables are all red, and most of the switched positive cables are yellow. Then for electronics it's a mess, without a wiring diagram you are completely helpless... Even triple color coded cables are used

Headlight Rewiring "Tech Sheet" link

The OMC "tech sheet" for rewiring the GT headlights is available as a FREE Adobe Acrobat (version 7) download, here:

http://www.opelclub.com/GTHeadlightsAugust2004.pdf

If you need to update your Acrobat browser to the later #7 version, you can download that for free at:

Adobe

Please note: Contrary to a comment listed above, this OMC "tech sheet" for GT headlight rewiring does include mention and instructions for replacement of the brown ground wire (as well as the white and yellow power wires).
