Unanswered: Intermittent electrical problem

My 70 GT have a problem, well I’m not sure if it’s there today, because it comes and goes. The issue is this: the other day was raining so I had the lights on, heater on, and wipers on. So all of the sudden I noticed that I was out of blinkers, and the oil pressure gauge, along with gas and temperature gauges. So, I checked the fuses and every thing was ok. Parked the car and a few days later all is ok. What’s going on? Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a bad ground connection in your controlboard ...

Looks like that ...

Renew the wireharness, the cabels are just old.

Or try to get some extra ground connection, for ex. the speedmeter to carbody ...

Raining, you say....

I once had a small leak in the corner of my GT windshield. In the rain, it would drip on my left leg. Once, while driving in the rain it shorted out the whole car... dead.

You might have something similar going on.

This has been discussed in the alternator upgrade threads on this site. You have to remember, these alts are getting to be 40 years old, and you had a HIGH demand on it that or those days. you might want to search the site for the alt upgrades, and consider one. There's a 66amp (GTs were 35 stock) to a simple, almost bolt on, 105 amp upgrade that the alt makes power from the get-go.

Yes, actually I think I have to do both The wiring in the control panel and the alternator upgrade, I had some issues in the past with some switches and I put it in the back burner; and I do have the original alternator, so is time. Thanks for taking the time.

What did you do with the grounds that attached to the speedo?
