But i went right to taht problem took it off sanded the block a little to get and dirt and grease off put it back on and it worked! then i shut it off ,tried it again and it did teh same thing..not work. so heres the deal every couple times every thing dies, or it starts, i tightend all the wires to starter the battery cabels EVERYTHING!

Only other thing i could add is check the negative cable where it's attached to the body. Mine was hanging on by just a few little wires!!

Pull the battery leads off of the battery, not just tighten. Clean both the posts and cables and reinstall.

Either turn off all the lights in the garage or wait till dark and have a buddy turn it over for you while your looking under the hood. You should be able to see the spark where its shorting out. Been there, done that. It beats taking everything apart. But you should just clean everything up anyways, then your good to go when driving season comes round!

Don't forget to check all the connections at the starter too.

Bypass ( Jump ) the ign. switch, go to the connector at the starter and go between the battery cable connector at the starter (Jump )to the solenoid connector ( car out of gear and brakes on & coil disconnected for safety )If the starter turns on then you will work from the solenoid connector & wiring back to your starter switch inside the car ( you said you had a push button ? ) HTH

Firstly, I'd give your battery terminals a GOOD cleaning. Secondly, I'd either give the battery leads a GOOD cleaning or replace them. Thirdly, clean ANY and all grounds. Still doesn't work? Then, bypass your starter by jumping across the solenoid terminals (like guyopel suggested). If that STILL doesn't work, you may have a problem with your ignition cylinder. I had the same problem with my old pickup, I tried every stinking thing possible and ended up having to yank the steering wheel and replacing the cylinder.
Now... You said that it intermittently works? I'd say the issue is with a loose wire, which is difficult to track down. Instead of cleaning your ground point, try clipping, stripping, and reattaching your wires. If you find a break in a wire that's causing a short, DO NOT USE A BUTT CONNECTOR!!!! Yes I know, they're cheap, easy, and pretty reliable. But repair it the right way: Solder and Shrink Tubing. Not only will it look more professional but it will also be more reliable in the long run. |
