Unanswered: Issues with electric parts...

i took the opel for a 'test drive' yesterday, to see if my master cylinder rebuild remained 'good to go' and was over joyed that it idd. however, on the way back, i flipped the turn signals and got a 'bleed' over that caused both indicators in the interior of the car to blink blink, a serious dip in the alt gauge when the indicators came one.

anyways, turned it on today to move it, and i don't have a water temp gauge, RPM gauge, turn signals, and she was missing like horrible.

*sigh* i worked a bit on the body, mostly, but this issue is irkin the hell outta me.

Cool

When you pulled your master cylinder did you move any of the brown ground wires on the wheelwell by the rear of the cylinder, just rewired my headlights and had a problem with a bad ground there. Once before I had a bad ground there and my drivers turn signal didn't work. Fixed the grounds and no more problem!!

My alternator also 'flicks' in tune to my blinkers, but I had thought that was just natural for the Opel since my old 73 did the same thing. Since prior threads refer to grounding and wire corrorsion problems, we both might need to look into that. Did you check to see if any dislodged or blew any fuses to account for the loss of gauges?

yeah, acutally, i took a few minutes to look at the fusebox schematic here in the galleries, didn't see a fuse responsible for gauges...

and i'll check that ground when i get out of work today.

NOT!! As originally designed, each indicator is 'blinked' singly depending on which turn signal direction is selected . . . it just never worked very reliably, particularly as the cars aged. Perhaps that's where you got the notion it only worked like that after 'relay' modification? This anomaly has been discussed ad nauseam in numerous threads . . .

Thanks Otto.. I stand corrected. Apparently I misunderstood past threads I had read on this.

Like Otto said this has been discussed numerous times. For those that have the DESTEC schematic there is a note on how to use the later 3-pin style blinker can vice the original 4-pin can. As far as a fuse for the instruments, they get their power from the terminal block between the speedo and oil/amp gage and it is powered from F-2 on JJ's schematic or the 3rd fuse from the 4 studs where there are 4 fuses. HTH.
