Unanswered: Footwell heat shield

I have had a few people tell me how hot the passenger side footwell gets while driving. Is there a heat shield for that area? My GT has nothing there, to deflect heat from the exhaust running by the tunnel. The heater is disabled, and the water lines aren't routed thru to the heater core. I thought about putting some sort of heat deflecting pad under the carpet, but I don't want it to look like I overstuffed the area, or that my carpet won't reinstall properly.

Yes there is a heat shield/mud collector that goes on that side. If it is gone that is a plus, saves you from having to take it off every time you drop a bolt or nut on that side of the engine and having the sub-frame rail rust out from the dirt/mud that collects in it because if you drop anything it has about a 80% chance of finding it's way into that shield and wedging it's self tight enough that you can't get it out with a magnet. If you put a thin heat deflector on the floor and wrap the head pipe with header wrap it will cool it down quite a bit and you won't lose your religion when you drop a bolt or nut(to be a really effective Opel mechanic you must learn to cuss in German so it knows what you are saying )
