Unanswered: Spare tire bracket?

Could somebody tell me how the spare tire should be held down in my 69 GT? There is a bracket mounted on the right side of the body but it doesn't have the 3 holes which I have seen on other cars. I have a attached a picture of this bracket. How does it connect to the wire part?
The car is registret early January 69 so maybe it's more like a 68 model.

I see this is your first post and you have a question I've not seen before! Welcome to the group.

I worked on a '69 not long ago and have seen a few others and I've never seen anything like that. Have you done a search on this site for the things to look for in a true '68 model? Maybe this is one that has been overlooked.

It is my understanding from this site that the Germans started each model year at the beginning of the year unlike the US. Our new models were/are introduced in the fall and sometimes in the summer or spring.

Good luck on your quest!

Harold

I have a late 68 early 69 model, if I remember right, that bracket is correct, it only has the one position and I believe the bracket mounts over that stud you see sideways with no nut on it in your picture. It's just a pivot to hold the frame when you lift it to remove the tire. Later models have the adjustable positions that you referred to. While your in there check out your spare, it's probably old.

Thanks for the reply Harold and Dennis.

The wire frame part was missing and the one I have found is from the 3-hole version and doesn't fit, but i'll modify that one then to fit the stud on the body bracket as this seem to be the original part.
