    Dash repair

I finally got fed up with my dash and dash cover and dashmat looking like crap so I wnt to Walmart (no comments please) and bought the interior auto carpet for $8 and a can of upholstery spray. Using my dashmat as a template, I cut the carpet and glued it over the cracks and crevasses of my dash. I then took my OGTS dash cover and cut off the area that was warped from the Texas heat, put a one inch strip of the Walmart carpet over the cut edge to give it a finished look . I am much happier now.

Looks decent now that it's new. Post some more pics in 6 to 8 months. I'd be more interested to see how it stands up to the test of time.

Will do- I hope that it holds up but like you said- the proof is in how it looks over time.. But even if it last only 4-6 months, I have enough of the carpet left over to do it 2-3 more times before an additional investment.

I used the same type of carpet for a rear panel in a Manta and after one year the carpet developed "mange" - the UV destroyed it to the point that when touched, the fibers would crumble to dust. I hope yours holds up better - it looks like you did a nice job.

I bought indoor outdoor carpet for my rear deck at Home Depot. It was only 76 cents a square foot. I believe it had a 3 year fade guarantee. It is easy to work with and looks pretty good. Not sure how the price compares to the Walmart stuff but it should last longer by the sounds of it.

    Update

The first problem arose this week end- finally got some warm weather so the interior front window got some heat build up. The upholstry glue did not hold in place on the strip glued to the dash cover so I cleaned it all of and used contact cement. Seems to be working OK - More updates on the way.
