Unanswered: Power Steering

Hey all, newbie here.

When I was 12 in 1973 I talked my father into buying an Opel GT. He wanted a Fiat but couldn't fit his 6'2" frame into it. Flash forward to 2006 and now he's giving the car to my 16-year-old son. (He never even let me drive it). It is all original with 38,000 miles. I picked it up today to drive it home to begin the restoration.

My question is, has anyone figured out a way to retrofit power steering into a GT? Since my son and I will most likely be disasembling much of the car to replace dried out bushings, worn components and such I thought I'd look to upgrade what I can.

We'll be doing some minor performance mods as well. Nothing that will alter the outward appearance though, except wheels. So I'll be posting questions often.

Several people have converted to powersteering on this site but it is very expensive and complicated, and if it is just for the sake of doing an upgrade it really isn't necessary unless you have some medical issue and you are unable to easily turn the wheel.

hi and welcome from the moderator
first post and gets the moderators main chant

it you do a search with the search engine on site (3rd from the right under banner ) there is some posts from one of the european members about doing it , i think his kit worked out at just about $1200 + shipping
to do yourself would mean sourcing a rack to match and then do a plumbimg mod to anything you can get to fit
