DOT-3 was the brake fluid that our brake systems were actually designed for (since the FSM recommends the Delco Supreme 11, which is DOT-3). But DOT-4 is an "improved version" of DOT-3, same glycol base, higher boiling temperature, so they can both be used with no ill effects, but they should not be mixed!

DOT 3 & 4 Brake Fluid things have changed. This is just one brand. I don't know about the compatability of others. I was looking for Castrol Dot 4 and came across the Valvoline Synpower fluid in AutoZone. Harold |
