Metro m/c and booster mod.

The Metro m/c and boosterfits in the same location as the origional Opel m/c and booster..it was necessary to inlarge the four (4) holes that go through the brace as there was a little difference but really not a big deal..once you get the old Opel stuff out and look at the differences between the two you'll see what is necessary to adapt..you'll need access to a welder or some one that can weld the nut onto the push rod from the old Opel booster to the Metro booster but like I say once you get the two m/c's and booster together you'll see what hast to be modified..just a note..the specs on the Metro m/c are very cloce to the Opel m/c so there will be no problem..I've had mine on for monthes now with no problem..no detectable difference in preformance...I wish now that I had taken pictures of the installation as I know that others will want to get rid of there old HEAVY..NOT AVAILABLE m/c and booster some day..you can email me for more details..hope I can remember..getting old...dave

Take pics of it installed at least. I have a 94 Metro in my driveway right now. I was looking at doing this exact mod. I was also looking at using the pressure balancer too.

Excellent. This sounds like one good solution with minimum modification and you get modern, easily replaceable parts.

I wonder if any adjustment of the booster is required (setting the linkage length) before welding the nut in place? Since my car and manual are unavailable right now to look at I'm kind of guessing at what get's connected. I wonder if a threaded coupler or threaded sleeve could be welded on that has more adjustment potential? Then the jam nut could be added too.

Pictures would be good too. This is a road that all will cross soon. Think death and taxes....and the age of dinosaurs, I guess, only we're not T-Rex or even a Triceratops.

I actually just bought a new Opel booster from OGTS and when my master cylinder needs replacing I may try one from a Honda Civic. I'm also interested in any other possibilities that would easily fit onto the stock booster including the sometimes mythical Cardone one from Rockauto, Autozone, etc.

I guess they all keep that on their websites to "keep hope alive". When I see this it's like there really is a "Land of Plenty" (or Promised Land, as the case may be) when it comes to Opel parts; i.e...it's like 1970 again, and we just landed on the Moon and anything is possible, and........ I think that J.C. Whitney might advertise piston sets for a '72 1.9 L. GT but they are actually Ford V8 pistons. If you go ahead and order them because you are just a damn fool optimist and can't totally read, they either fit...and work.....and you have a spare set to boot......."Ha ha, take that!". or you are just out of luck Chuck and your already growing Opel parts cynicism is only cruelly reinforced.

Here are a few pictures of what *Broszzy* did with the Geo-Metro M/C and booster.

I will look closely at my installation tomorrow concerning the push rod..seems that I loosely installed the new Metro booster after modifing the four mounting holes..then with the stiffener off which runs from the booster brace to the fire wall the length of the push rod can be determined..I just recalled that I cut the nut off the old booster with a hack saw but just a part of it..then I drilled out the center of the nut to just a little larger so the end of the Meto booster shaft coming out of the booster would just slip in to the nut and can be welded in place..the adjuster nut is still in place to adjust the length for brake pedal heigth..I'll just have to look at it again to refresh my memory....really a nice looking modification though..that little Metro m/c and booster really necessels in there just right..there may be others that will or can be made of work seems I've heard of someone using a Toyota system but always a problem with fluid resavoy sticking up to high...I'll add more as it comes back..df

I also checked out Autozone, Advanced Auto and Napa and found they had zero master cylinders in stock. Called Rock Auto as the instruction says when you look up MC on their web site. They e-mailed me a form and I mailed my core to Cardone and a week later I recieved my rebuilt master cylinder back. Looks nice, won't be in the car for a while. Just wanted to make sure I could still get one. Any ways it was real easy. Remember to leave the screw in fitting on the side of the MC. They also send you a picture of your MC as they received it.

Hope this helps. Bill
