Unanswered: broken caliper? fixable or toss it?

When separating the 2 halfs I stupidly hit the tab and broke it off instead of punching the rods.

As you can see there is still material around where the rods go that hold them in position, but is it safe to re-assemble as is or is the material there too weak to trust? If at all possible I would like to try and repair it in some way.

Keith(?),

Even if you had not broken the piece off, I'd be wary of using the caliper. The usual advice is not to crack the calipers apart when rebuilding. This is because there are square-shouldered O-rings of a special material (Unobtainium or, the even rarer, Nokanfindium) between the two halves. The O-rings are very hard to find, seriously. Calipers are pretty cheap - and this is one part of the car where you do NOT want to take any chances.

You may even be able to find some calipers here cheap (or free) that you could use as cores for some newly rebuilt ones, or that you could rebuild yourself.

Do Not Use Broken Caliper

Definitely DO NOT USE broken caliper.
Online Auto Parts and Auto Accessories Store at PartsAmerica.com or RockAuto lists remanufactured calipers, but don't think you will receive $30 core charge due to the damage. Search ebay or this list for calipers.
