Unanswered: 73 Manta Brake Question

My brake MC needs repair on the 73 Manta. However the PO replaced the original MC with a different one. The problem is I dont know precisely what this different one has come from. The proper one according to the FSM takes the two separate fluid cups shown in the first photo. The second photo and third show what I have. This is what I need to purchase a rebuild kit for so I get the correct parts. Does anyone know what model this MC came from? Thanks.

Tom;
I may be wrong, but, it looks like the two different resv will fit the M/C you have, it just that the the two bowl one is OEM, and the other is something off a BMW or Audi that has a low fluid sensor in it, hence the two wires coming out of the cap.

Hey Tom-

On my 74 the reservoir looked like the one in the first pic. It used retaining clips down in the fluid ports to hold it onto the master. Unless there is some other press-fit type rubber seal that can be used with the 74-ish master, then by looking at the other reservoir, it cannot be the later type.
Opel used a GT style ATE master the first couple of years on the 50 series, then switched to the AC France unit (marked Delco AC France and has a brake warning light switch) in 72 (model year according to the parts book) with Bochum chassis #2761478 and Antwerp 9662825.
I would hazard a guess that you have the earlier master that shares internals with the 67-72 Kadett/GT master. Even the reservoir cap should be interchangeable with the cap on your Kadett, but only if the Kadett is a stick. Automatic Kadetts had a different cap.

As a side note, if you have the earlier master, you have the earlier model 50 brake booster. As far as I know, they are a matched pair. Early booster/late master or vice versa are not compatible.

Count yourself lucky, you have a cheaper easier to deal with master than the AC France.

Fag Mc

Tom,
What you have is an FAG master cylinder. This was a popular aftermarket part. It interchanges with the AC Delco MC. The earlier ATe MC would not fit on your brake booster.

Thanks Thomas. Do you know who might stock repair kits for the MC then?
