    Emergency Brake Cable

My emergency brake cable link is the old style ball and folded lever. The only rear brake pads available from OGTS were the pads with the newer hook and stirrup style link. OGTS suggested to "keep the old hardware" so the shop could hook up my new pads to the emergency brake cable. My mechanic is stumped on what to do.... Is he supposed to swap out the old lever onto the new pads so that the brake cable attaches? Can this be done?

I realize all of this can be resolved by ordering the newer style emergency brake cable... but that would be another $66 plus tax, and shipping, and labor to install.

Old Ball and Lever style Emergency Brake link that I have above, and the newer Hook and Stirrup style link that comes with the newer style brake shoes.

There may be a possibility that your local auto parts store has the earlier rear brake shoes in their system and can be obtained. It doesn't hurt to try. Then again if you get the newer cable, then you can always use the newer style shoes, or the old style if you keep your old cable.

I thought there was a way of using one style with the other?? Talk to Dennis at OGTS.

Good luck with that, I started over two weeks ago with the same problem. A Beck Arnley warehouse isn't very far from me. They had 19 sets of the correct shoe listed. I had them check every box. ALL were for the later model even though in their books they clearly showed the old style "folded lever".

Then again if you get the newer cable, then you can always use the newer style shoes, or the old style if you keep your old cable.
This idea is starting to look like the way to go.

Actually, you can swap out the arms that the cable attaches to, there's just a simple horseshoe clip that can be straightened a little and popped off, then you just swap the arms.

How about removing the rivet on the new shoe to release the lever and then inserting the original arm with the post and clip?

That's what I did, bought the later style brake shoes, but a good used cable for about $25 or so.
But I agree, if swapping the arms is possible, you will have the cheapest solution.

In my case the shoes I removed have the e brake lever riveted just like the replacements in the picture.
