Answered: Disc Brake O Ring

Ok what's the trick to getting the metal O Ring around the new rubber boot seal that fits over the front brake hydraulic cylinder?

I just rebuilt 4 (2 sets ) calipers had no trouble I have noticed differnet types of clips to clip the dust boot over the hard frame (different manufacturers or cross overs to existing parts for other cars of similar structure I guess, anyway I like the band retainer better then the wire type). I slid the ring around to where the open end is in the space where I can see it push the one side down and once it is started in place I put my finger on it and spread the ring out some and like mentioned above follow it around until the other end is seated as well. I only used my hands no screwdriver except to push the band down. Just be careful you don't puncture the dust boot with the screwdriver if you slip. Be sure the caliper piston is all the way in or you will be fighting that on top of trying to get ring on.

Leaking Caliper

Hmmmm sounds like this dust boot, is just that... a dust boot. LOL
The reason I ask is that I thought this was more of a seal , but I guess not.
I recently installed new discs and pads on the front brakes and the new rubber boots... but brake fluid was leaking out of the cylinder in the brake caliper.

I guess this calls for a new caliper? and not just the O Ring around the dust boot?

The sealing ring is inside you can't see it unless you remove piston. The visible part is just a dust cover with a clip to hold it in place. The hardest part is getting the pistons out of the housing to put a kit in it. Kit itself is simple, one rubber square ring about 3/16 by 3/16 or so sits about half way down the housing for the piston on both sides and the dust boots with retainers to hold it on. I use air and small welding pliers to pop the pistons it has worked good. Theres a thread with different approaches to removing pistons.

Thanks for the advice. I'm ordering a rebuilt caliper from OGTS and hopefully this will solve the problem.
