how to remove e-brake cable from hub

I've got the older version with the ball on the end of the e-brake cable. I'm switching out the rear end, and have 2 questions:

    1) How do you get the cable back through the hole in the hub? I can't seem to get the grommet to come through the hole... I'm hoping that's what I should be trying to do!

    2) My new rear is the newer style with loop on end of cable... but the cable is broken. Are the guts of the braking mechanisms interchangeable, so that I can put the better shoes from the older rear into the newer rear, and put the ball-style e-brake cable lever into the newer rear end?

    Thanks!

You are correct in that you can swap the cables, the only difference is just the ends. It's a trick to doing it, but, my brain cells are failing me, it has to do with the long spring on the shoe side of the backing plate that needs to pulled back and the cable slid over, or the sring collasped and the end has to flip or something.

Ok, nevermind question #1. I was able to push the grommet through after noticing the c-clips and removing them.
If someone has any more details about question #2, I would appreciate it. I'm looking to either switch out the entire cable for the loop version, or switch out the lever from the hook to the sqeeze bracket lever. I'd rather not spend the extra bucks on a new cable, so hoping the switch isn't too difficult, and someone can explain any tricky points in detail.

    Chilly,
I swapped from old style ball to the flat stirrup a few years ago. So it would
make sense that you can go from from flat stirrup to ball.

I dont think ogts sells the ball type shoe anymore, so it you ever need rear brake shoes, the only available is the newer flat stirrup type.
