Unanswered: Brake Trouble
Yesterday was my day to bleed the brakes. I was able to successfully blead the front brakes..but when I went to the back..no fluid came out. So I thought the cylinders might be the problem (the car had new cylinders still in the boxes when I bought). So today, I was able to get the rear drums off, and cylinders...still no fluid. Does this sounds like a Master cylinder?? Front brakes work, but not the back. The car came with a new master cylinder in the box..I was just hoping I didn't have to go that route. I have never changed a master cylinder, and where its at looks like a bear. Any advice would be helpful.
One more quick question,,,the area below the front bumper..where the horns are at. Is this supposed to be all open, or am I missing a piece..like a screen, grate, etc. Thanks. |

The Opels have a flexable line for the brake lines. One on each of the two front brake calipers and a single flex line for the back brakes. It's located and attached where the torque tube bolts to the rear axle. I would bet that it has swollen up and no longer allows brake fluid to travel. This is a common problem with the age of the car. The best place to get them is at OGTS, thier price on the non OEM is the best around too. It's worth the time and money to replace all three at one time. If one has gone bad the others aren't far behind.
And yes there is supposed to be a mesh screen in the front opening. One large rectangular piece and two smaller pieces that fit around the lights. they are commonly taken off and not put back. That's part of the whole previous owner thing. I'm pretty sure I have a couple sets around. Let me know if I can help you. Just where in the Springs are you? |

Thanks Grant. Do you have an email address where we can talk about the screens?? I also have some other parts I may need help with, more on the screws and bolt department which I'm missing. Thanks.
I will check that line. Wouldn't the brake pedel stiffing, even if fluid wasn't traveling?? When I bled the front brakes, with the back still on, I was able to get pedel on the second pump..when I took the rear cylinders off, I can pump all day with no pedel Thanks for your help. |
