Unanswered: Oil Capacity

I need to repair and calibrate a dip stick for my 1971 Ascona.
What is the combined oil pan and filter capacity at the full mark?

With the tiny stock-sized oil filter the capacity is 3.8 quarts. I use a larger filter and just go with 4 quarts.

Paul,

I assume you are talking about the 1.9 engine. Got the following info from the factory service manual and Haynes:

FSM states oil reservoir capacity 3 1/4 quarts with dry filter.

Haynes has a few measures:
initial fill: 6.8 pints (3.2 ltrs)
without oil filter replacement: 5.7 pints (2.7 ltrs)
with oil filter replacement: 6.3 pints (3 ltrs)

Specs apply to 1.6 and 1.9L engines, both 9.0 and 7.6/1 compression.

Jim

What brand and size, Bob?

Is there a bigger one that would fit on a stock GT.

Thanks
