Unanswered: Engine questions

Hi all any of you able to help clarify if this engine is anything special or just stock with some bolt on goodies

.. i picked up a spare engine at the weekend, it supposedly had big valve head, forged pistons etc etc..
Ok .. question 1 , although it does look like the ports have been opened up now i have the head off the valves look about standard.. anyone happen to know what the standard 1.9 inlet and exhaust sizes are ? (on this the ins are 42 outs 37)

Question 2, the pistons are domed .. id expected flat with pockets or dished. they are stamped 95.44 on top (2000 slight overbore?) , not taken them out of the block yet to investigate further but wonderred if domed pistons were standard on any model? . Havent been able to find any examples of domed CIH pistons on a cursory surf of the interweb and the only place i find a mention is along the lines of dont use domed pistons in a competition engine.

It was allegedly running twin 48's and producing 210 bhp but that seems a little unlikely if the valves are indeed stock? .

any thoughts ?

Standard 1.9 valves were 40 mm inlet and 34 mm exhaust

domed pistons increase the compression thus more horse power depending on the cam, exhaust, ect. The domed pistons are not stock but a performance item. So with forty eights on it (more likely 45s) yes it would be feasible to see 210 HP with it, or a little under 200 HP.

Some Mods ...

Is it a 1.9L block or a 2.0L - the numbers cast on the side of the block will indicate which it is.

42In/37Ex are standard 2.0L valve sizes, easily fitted to the earlier 1.9L head and 95.55mm is +020" on a 2.0L bore but 2.5mm bigger than the 1.9L bore - another easy change to, esentially, make the 1.9L block into a 2.0L motor.

Pop-up pistons show that the motor has had something done to it as only flat-tops and dished pistons were used stock.

I doubt that a motor of that size (just over 2.0L) and with those valves can make 200+ HP ... 150HP is more realistic (depending upon cam and carbs).

Hi .. the block is a 1.9 , cam is a kent OP254 which as far as i can see was the rally/race model , solid lifters .. so again looks like some work done, just seems strange that they didnt increase the valve size at the same time ? . I'll drop one of the pistons out tomorrow and see if i can figure out what they are. Thanks for the info thus far

. . . and now, for those interested in Opel cam specs . . . and for our German friends, just click on the small German flag at the top (Rüdiger Cortez's Opel site).
