Unanswered: new engine or not??
I have a few questions to all you experts out there. I found out that my 71 opel gt has a 70 head with Hydrolic lifters. I was able to push the lifter down really easily. This started to bother me and made me think that I should change out my motor with one from Opel gt source. I think the time I would spend trying to find all the problems I could just replace it all together. What do you all think???? A novice here

Engine Evaluation
When making a decision on what to do with an engine, evaluation is the first step. This means, checking compression, oil pressure, etc. While it's also important to verify that you have the correct type of lifters relative to the camshaft grind (solid or hydraulic), that alone doesn't indicate the running condition of an engine.

You should be able to squish the lifter some. The question is HOW easily. When the engine is running, its oil pressure that pumps them up. I've had more problems when the lifter stuck solid.
How mechanically inclided are you? Are you up for an engine swap from OGTS? You up for a rebuild of your existing 1.9 and wanna make your own custom modifications, such as head porting, big valves, etc..... Do you get all excited about engine work???? Or do just want to get it overwith... Believe it or not, the answers will help everyone here figure out how to help you.

I would like to go up in size both motor and trany to a 5 speed. However I heard there are a lot of modifications to do so. Is this true. Can I do this without a lot of change to the existing vehical. I am even thinking about body changes with spoilers front and back. As far as mechanically inclided, I am. And know I will enjoy it.

There is very little modification required. The engines are dimensionally the same, so no change there. The tranny will require an appropriately sized flywheel pressure plate and clutch disk. If you get a 5 Speed already modified from OGTS you should be able to bolt right in. If is unmodified there is so much information here, it is not going to be vary hard to do either.
I recommend to do it. Go 2.4l EFI with a 5 speed, you will never be sorry you did. You should still get gas mileage in the 30's if you can keep you foot out of it.
