That's your engine number, 19S for 1.9 l. Has nothing to do with chassis # (Opel does not have matching numbers). Judging by the number it's probably built in 1970, maybe an early 1971.

*Stars*

The 'stars' each end of the engine number show that it was an earlier high compression motor. "19" means 1.9 litres. "S" means that it had a carburetor. The rest of the numbers are just the engine number which gives some idea of when it was produced - 1969 -71 sounds about right. However, if you have a 1969 GT (noticed your 'name') it is probably the original motor.

This has has been proven not to always be the case, confirmed by OGTS.

Here is another example: I have a 71 GT (produced 4/1971), Motor #: *19S-0755510*, with both "stars". Car was bought from the original owner, with 55K miles, no previous motor swap. I just rebuilt the engine, and I was surprised to see low comp pistons
But most engines with lower motor numbers should be high compression pistons.

Hmmm ...

Did it also have a four bearing head with hydraulic cam?

Some time ago 'nobody' and myself did a survey of VINs and motor numbers and the two 'stars' seemed to indicate a high compression motor with solid lifter cam in a three-bearing head. Nothing hard and fast - just a trend that showed up. I guess Opel played fast and loose ... as usual!
