Moderator Note: So far off-topic I couldn't stand it, so this gets its own thread

Mine is stamped 19H next to the side center cover. It has three bearings.

. . . "Der Zylinderkopf ist eine Spezialausführung mit einem entsprechend der Verdichtung von 9,5 geänderten Volumen (48,8 cm³) der Brennkammern. Gekennzeichnet ist der Kopf, äuserlich sichtbar, linksseitig an der Anlagefläche des Knockenwellenmontagedeckels mit dem Schlagzeichen "19H" und zwei senkrechten halbrunden Wülsten an der Zylinderkopfstirnseite." . . . - The cylinderhead is a special production unit with a "to 9.5CR" altered combustion chamber volume of 48.8cc (reduced). The head is identified, externally visible, on the left side machined area directly in front of the side "cam installation cover" with stamped letters "19H" and by two vertical half-round bars at the front of the head. - The 19H cam is further identified by a rounded rib between the #2 and #3 exhaust valves lobes. HL engines - 1.9, 2.5, 2.8 - all also required special intake springs, marked yellow, PN 6 42 259 with these cams. . . . there, in one place, all the specs for H heads on HL engines, first introduced in January 1968!

Markings cast into the head under the valve cover are Opel foundry identifiers for the casting where-as the '19H' is stamped on to the machined surface after the head has been finished.
What is stamped on the machined bit by the centre opening cover for cam access on the side of the head? '75 H' may be the year/month casting identifier - 1975 August

The machined surface Jim refers to is directly forward of the center cam cover, directly above the #2 spark plug.
In looking the head over (when I first got it- thanks again OpelJim) I couldn't see anything about the combustion chamber that looked different from all the 19S heads I have. Didn't cc the chamber, though. However after a .080" angle cut it sure looked different! Ah, crap, did I just give away a racing secret? Dang. No, honest, Mr. Tech Man Who Doesn't Know a Sprocket Rectifier from a Tensioner Condensor, it's STOCK! That's just how they do it in Germany...

The only numbers that are of any significance are the numbers stamped into the flat next to the side cam cover identifying the head, the year cast into the head under the valve cover, and the Opel part # cast into the head under the valve cover. The rest are just for 'internal' use by GM and/or the foundry and don't identify anything we have to be concerned with!

![]() Really, I just move stuff around when I see posts or threads in the wrong place, and newbies ALWAYS get the benefit of at least a couple of misplaced threads before we launch the nukes , and your post was added to a thread that had nothing to do with your question, and wouldn't have attracted nearly as much attention as it did, so it got, and deserved, it's own thread. There, all in one breath....

Dont sweat it, Keith is just doing his job as a moderator. And you will understand why down the road when you start trying to hunt for certain information contained in threads of certain topics.
